Haha wow, old thread!
Yes, still got her. Currently I'm rebuilding the engine as it expired, due to a dropped valve.
The exhaust is pretty much scrap, I've got a full original exhaust with heat exchangers to bolt on.
What are you after?

Re: How many miles on your engine?
Well the bus itself has done 161000, if it's been around the clock just the once
How many miles of that covered with its Aircooled CT is anyone's guess

Re: Advice needed on tappet problem - new engine?
I think it's utterly disgraceful that a garage can condemn an engine without even carrying out basic fault finding.
You loose money, end up with a whole host of new problems related to a new engine install, and your perfectly serviceable old engine gets weighed in. Brilliant

Re: Spare Wheel Devon Moonraker
General opinion is that mounting on the front panel is unsafe, as in a crash the crumple and impact absorbsion doesn't do its job. The wheel hits first and pushes into the cab.

You must have a tidy engine if that's the only place oil is appearing where it shouldn't

Stalling under braking could be a vacuum leak on the carb/dizzy/brake servo/inlet manifold.. any of those..

Re: advice- should I rebuild my carbs
A friend at work machined new bushes for me. Ours has previously been reworked with brass bushings, but they had worn out. He had to set the carb up on a mill to get it square and machine out the old bushings first!
The wear was causing a petrol leak... Not good!

Hydraulic tappet adjustment, a few questions
Hey everyone. I am going to change the oil on our Aircooled ct camper rather soon. First off, oil, i was going to use 15w 40 mineral oil, best idea? I've also seen 20 50 recommended and this is what i have used to top her up since owning her. (One year of use, done only 2500 is miles!) Onto the main...

Sounds sensible to me :ok Already had to turn to the chisel on the rear quarter to bash off half an inch of body filler :rollin The face says it all :rofl http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c198/mmbib/c02819314bdef0a10d732853febd048a_zps3f4db80b.jpg Seatbelt mounting point... Re: Blasting, dipping.. Paint Removal!
Cheers :) It does sound like dipping is a bit overkill for the condition of the truck. Seeing what mm did on kevs bus has made me think, blasting with a light medium just to get the top surface clean would be enough. Metalmick8y, did you do any paint removal on the underside of your projects? What d...

Re: Blasting, dipping.. Paint Removal!
Blooming heck! Haha! Nice work there mm. I've got noway near the rust to contend with, some pudding, especially the rear quarter where a prang has been bodged. But it's fairly solid compared to what you have taken on! I did welding and fabrication for 2 years before I started out at work, which invo...

Re: Blasting, dipping.. Paint Removal!
Ahh cheers fella, good explanation! Yea I can see how a butt weld is easier with gas. Smaller weld bead and more control I suppose! Can imagine mig quite happily making a mess of a butt joint if you are not careful. Have you got a link to any of your projects, love to see your work matey :) Maybe it...
