1990 JX with multi-coloured smoke
A funny thing happened on the way to Wickes the other day. My 1600TD JX was running sweetly as I approached a dual carriageway but at around 45 mph began pump out large volumes of light grey smoke. I could barely see an HGV which I had just overtaken in the mirror - he was impressed! After about a m...

Re: T25 Mechanics in Kent/Essex/South London?
Went down Streeters Lane in Wallington the other day looking for Tony Hines. It seems to be all new residential property and no sign of Orchard Works. Presumeably he has moved or I should have gone to Specsavers

Re: T25 Mechanics in Kent/Essex/South London?
Used VW AIrfix (Darren Campbell) for a while on my 1.6TD Replaced all brake pipes and overhauled calipers - good job Replaced engine oil, crossed threaded sump bolt and charged me to helicoil it! Fitted replacement JX engine - finally sorted out by The Engine Shop in Erith (good guys!) Failed to spo...

Re: 80ah battery for camping???
Dunno about the brand but it is a 70ah battery picked up off fleabay. Any deep cycle 70ah and above battery will suit providing it fits in the space available. Many are too tall so measure first buy once to paraphrase the carpenters rule!

Re: 80ah battery for camping???
Before you get too excited remeber that your van probably has the standard 65amp alternator which is not going to cope with charging your starter battery and a deep cycle leisure battery. You could change to a 90amp alternator but these are pricey - around £140 and I believe require new bracketry. O...

Re: Diesel/AAZ help please...
You might want to toddle off down to see Ian at Watsons in Wimbledon who can supply a rubber priming bulb to fit between the filter and pump. The bulb comes with two one way valves and is so useful if you get air problems. I have had one on my last two JXs and wouldn't be without it. Around 20 quid ...

Re: Finding my oil leak (1.6 TD)
Good to see you've cracked it!
Just one thought - I always fit rocker cover gaskets with a very thin smear of high melting point grease on each face of the gasket just to ensure a complete seal

Re: Analogue clock repairs
Thanks but I have tried all that. I have run both a direct feed from the fuse box and a new return but still no joy, Seems a shame to bin them for what might be a minor fault in the clock.
I might try pulling one of them apart - nothing to lose!

Analogue clock repairs
Anyone know where I can get an analogue clock repaired?
I have two busted ones and doubt I can find a working replacement without spending millions on a complete replacement clockset

Re: Finding my oil leak (1.6 TD)
The one thing nobody has mentioned is the oil pressure switch. They have a habit of leaking between the plastic and metal bits - mine spurted a little drop every so often which ran down the block and dripped off the sump drain plug. Sod to find but worth it to cure the nuisance value. Clean up with ...

Re: Noisy tyres
Its running on Semperit 205/70R14 97 load rating if i am reading it right Continental do the Vanco in 185/14 with a 100/102 load rating for around 62 quid. Presumably this is high enough load rating Thought I might go to 185/14 as the narrower tyres should help with steering in tight spots - no powe...
