The flap type air flow meters where always prone to failure.
You can prize off the top plastic cover, check and clean the resister coil of wire. That's normally faulty.
We used to have loads fail if they ran on LPG. Due to a backfire

Loud pop would have been excessive gas building up and exploded in the inlet
If you have a flap type airflow meter then this would have been damaged.
So a good idea would be inspect this then all other vacuum pipes.

Still on topic, if a battery isolator is fitted, will the battery cover (hinged metal) still close properly? Just wondering. You can run a cable from battery to switch, mount switch on side of battery box, then fit the front to rear cable to switch. You can gain 6 inches or so, depending where you ...

Isn't your battery next to the engine?
If it's just the low current cable from ignition switch, just extend it.

The Lucas one is 1500 amps max. Continuous 150 amp.
