Re: How fast does your JX go?
Yeah it is a bit on the scary side at times. Turbo is on, but I don't know it's condition other than it's not noisy and it still blows air up the pipe to the LDA, should be ok i guess. I think i'll have to check things over again though. I'll check the timing as well. I'm suspicious of the LDA, does...

Re: How fast does your JX go?
Thanks for the replies. Yeah so it was just me and a drum kit, not too heavy; maybe the same weight as another person in total. The van is a converted panel van but with not much extra than a rocknroll bed, so it should be fairly close to the unladen weight. I wondered if it's a symptom of having a ...

How fast does your JX go?
Hi everyone, I rebuilt my JX engine over the winter and have been enjoying using the van for a few months now. I want to ask other JX drivers what sort of power you'd expect from the engine? I ask because I don't really have a valid reference from before the rebuild as the engine was in quite a bad ...

Heating a shower from engine
Hi folks, thought you might appreciate this guys shower addition to his jeep (see link below). He's set up a heat exchanger on the coolant pipe to heat water pumped up from a container (or any source potentially). Pretty cool! Anyone seen something like this on a t25? http://imgur.com/a/zbxiZ" ...

Re: Jx cylinder head removal.
Good stuff, that's the spirit! I'm not familiar with the Bentley manual myself, the one i use is from just kampers (originally a 'pocket mechanic' book published by Peter Russek, which JK seem to have just photocopied and taken as their own!) which covers the JX: http://www.justkampers.com/shop/t25/...

Re: JX Diesel manual alternative?
Hi, this manual here has the torques and procedures: http://www.justkampers.com/shop/t25/accessories/workshop-manuals/kamper-manual-for-vw-diesel-and-turbo-diesel-transporters-1982-1992-j10839.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Not a bad manual, could be a bit clearer or b...

Re: Jx cylinder head removal.
Hi Rob, yeah i fitted the head myself (but that's off now!). I've managed to get a second hand JX engine off of ebay which had a recent head recon, picked it up today and will be fitting it this week sometime. I definitely agree with what other people have said in the past about stripping and puttin...

Re: Jx cylinder head removal.
Before committing to any repair work make sure you get the head pressure tested. I didn't pressure test mine, and after a hefty recon bill found that there was actually a crack in it and the head should have been scrapped. I wasn't expecting it, but i'm new to this too so it's all part of the learni...

You are correct, and I wasn't saying otherwise. We can all agree that it is not job for the side of the M25 though, if indeed that even is the problem.

Re: Death by overheating
Ah, and with regards to head gaskets, it would take a large part of a day for a mechanic to get in there and replace it. I did mine myself over a few weeks when i had a free evening, first time learning too. You obviously need to diagnose what's up with yours first though...

Re: Death by overheating
Ah i didn't realise that you were on the M25 right now! I would strongly recommend getting towed to your destination rather than attempt to drive it with missing a bunch of coolant. You may well cause more damage. You might even find that the problem is something more simple like a bust coolant pipe...

Re: Death by overheating
It sounds like you might be getting exhaust gas pressure in your coolant. It may be a head gasket gone, or worse a crack in the engine block or head. Head gasket is more likely i think though. Where is the water coming out of exactly? I had issues like this and only last week diagnosed a tiny hairli...

Cracked pre-combustion chamber in my JX
I've just completed a recondition of my JX engine and have found a hairline crack in the pre-combustion chamber (roughly 20 mm long). Before the recon the engine had a worn piston (due to over heating) and didn't allow for much pressure in the cylinder, but now it's up to full pressure i end up with...
