Cats don't like petrol, they can't resist antifreeze even though it's not good for them !

Re: cam follower or push rod ?
I've not had chance to have a look at the tappet screws today but if what you say is correct does it mean new valves kev,or can it be adjusted. since owning the van I've only used 15/40 mineral oil and have done two oil changes in 4000 miles as the first oil change I did was very black and wanted to...

cam follower or push rod ?
Further to my discovery that my 1.9 df has solid followers fitted and adjusting the tappets the engine has much improved performance but still has one annoying tappet. i noticed when going over the tappets once again just to check I hadn't missed something that one of the adjuster screws on no 2 cyl...

Re: About to start another WBX
I'm watching this thread with great interest as i have an early df built in 82 .any knowledge I pick is always a bonus .give me a F0RD cross low or pinto and I'm happy but wbxr is a mystery ! He has said it's really a late engine with respect to the important bits like bearings. I realise that and ...

Re: adjusted tappets !
Final update .readjusted tappets as per solid 6 thou engine stone cold , fitted new distributor cap and rotor arm, engine running much better than before and doesn't sound like a man running behind shaking a tin of ball bearings ! i have located a good distributor off an early df,watch this space . b...

Re: adjusted tappets !
:ok A good rule of thumb is to check adjustments of anything before changing. If you had counted the number of turns you changed it by you could have put it back to where you started. You have just made a similar mistake by adding a space between itchy and feet, silver and bullet :D I did count the...

Re: adjusted tappets !
Thanks to you both itchy feet and silver bullet. i will let it cool and reset tomorrow. Something else I noticed is the block is painted gold where you can still see the paint , would this mean a recon and explain the solid followers ? so far I have learned I have a pierberg carb instead of a solex ...

Re: adjusted tappets !
Ok update just found a sticker under the grime on rocker cover saying manual tappets so I guess that means solid, so adjusted to 6 thou as per wiki says and idle is back and so is my power. next question is. should tappets being solid as seems to be the case be adjusted hot or cold ? The engine is s...
