Re: Is this an earthing problem?

Spot on! That's exactly what this fuse does. The two bottom screwpoints are linked together so the power from the left also goes to the right. When I tested it first there was no power to the top right. I think the right fuse was either old or burnt but probably not working. Things are looking much ...

Re: Is this an earthing problem?

The Plot Thickens After reading up I discovered there is a little fuse box behind the driver seat that could be that live feed.  But it doesn't look as I imagine it should. There was no input wire on the right side but there was a fuse which I removed to have a good look. There is 12.45 volts enteri...

Re: Is this an earthing problem?

Following your advice I checked pump working - OK. To test the tap switch, I disconnected the live feed into the tap and instead attached a wire going directly to the positive battery terminal.  When switched on the tap works perfectly.  This suggests the problem lies with the live feed?  Is my eart...

Re: Is this an earthing problem?

Thanks for your reply AngeloEvs. I shall try to give the best response.  The tank is above the floor inside a cupboard. Yes it has a submersible pump with two wires that plug into wires that head behind the bodywork.  At the tap switch two wires going to the tap are connected to a) one wire that goe...

Is this an earthing problem?

To enable welding beneath the water tank, I had to take out the rock n' roll seat and the water tank unit.  When refitting I forgot about rebuilding the earth point beneath the tank unit, so when it was all back I tried to retrofit an earth onto the body of the van behind the water refill point.  No...

Unforgivable: losing the cap on the water tank

I had to take out the fresh water tank and it's housing and the back seat to do some welding but I seem to have lost the cap underneath the tank.  Does anyone have any idea how I could replace it?  Its not difficult to replace the other cap (for removing the used water) but I can't find either the t...

Re: Advice on cutting holes

I get the point.  I was just posting in case anyone said " Whooa! Don't do that!"  It sounds like there isn't anything that isn't kind of obvious.  I'll go ahead and order a drill bit now.  Cheers.

Advice on cutting holes

I have to cut a 5 cm hole in the floor of my vw t25, for the water tank, after some welding work.  Several of the vendors for metal hole saws say 'not to be used with hand held drills'.  Can anyone give any advice as to what sort of tools are required here and any techniques? I imagine the concern i...

Re: Refitting the speedo cable to the grease cap

Sorry to not update this post but life is a bit hectic at the moment.  The problem with the screeching speedo was solved and in case others have a similar problem, the following post helped:    https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=246885 I covered the speedo with WD40 inside and out.  I...

Re: Refitting the speedo cable to the grease cap

I take your points but the problem is definitely inside the unit. It is clear when you turn it with a screwdriver. I can't understand what could have happened to it. I checked them out and they seem very expensive new.  Anyone got any ideas about 2nd hand ones? I've been checking the internet.  I'll...

Re: Refitting the speedo cable to the grease cap

Unfortunately, I celebrated too early.  Now the speedo is making a whirring racket when it goes round.  I took it out and it is the speedo itself.  When you turn it with a screwdriver you can hear it like something is rubbing.  But I don't think you can take it apart can you? I've filled it with wd4...

Re: Refitting the speedo cable to the grease cap

Did it!  I pulled it out as far as it would go and wedged a very very small piece of toilet paper underneath and inside to wedge the cable end in the centre.   I also pushed the cable down from the speedo end (though I don't think this added any).  Then very carefully positioned the grease cap over ...
