Re: Ignition On Issue
The fault was down to a bad earth from the gearbox to chassis. I rectified it and fitted an additional batt to body earth. Have good voltage all round now.

Ignition On Issue
88 Westy Diesel. Been standing (inside) for a year. Battery's good. Van starts on the button and everything works as it should. However, when I turn the ignition on, it seems like I have a flat battery. The headlights are dim, wipers move slowly and horn doesn't work (I can hear the relay clicking)....

Input Shaft Swap
I want to change the TD input shaft on my 5sp diesel box (with locking diff) to a 28 spline TDI. Do I need to move the diff over or will it slide past?

AAZ Connecting Rods
My early AAZ has a bent conrod and I have a spare but it is from a later engine. I know they are slightly different but am I safe to use it? Also, is the number engraved on the cap related to weight? If so, how do I decode it? My bent one is marked 44 k4 and the spare 53 k4.

I have to do some work on my AAZ. I know Mahle pistons are the standard but what others are quality for less money?

Re: Glue to fix westfalia double glazed window
I'm sure there are better products but I used JB Weld on mine when a stone was thrown through it whilst driving through Morocco. Both panes shattered, and though it It was all I had with me, worked better than expected (even if it wasn't very pretty). I didn't replace it for near on a year!

Re: Radius Arm Chassis Repair Advice Please!!
On mine I just cleaned it up a bit and built up the worn side with beads of weld with the welder cranked up a good bit. Then I leveled it out with the grinder and a power file to fine tune the hole size. I used a similar method a few years ago - building up the worn sides with metal shims until the...

Re: Westy LPG tank doesn't want to be filled...
I'd want to be certain the tank really is empty before trying to diagnose a filling problem because the gauge on the Westy tank is notorious for failing. The good news is the fix is simple.

Re: Alternator Bracket
Shame we're not closer as I've several crates of 1.6 & 1.9 engine parts including numerous pulleys brackets etc. Yes, that bracket looks like the normal 1.6 one. Re. the pulley, there is a bit of adjustment in/out, by using a thick washer. I do have a spare shiny new pulley here, but I'm not su...

Re: Alternator Bracket
I would change that rusty hose clip also whilst you can get at it if I were you. Doesn't look like it will cling on for much longer. :D Well spotted. It's on my current list...along with, rusty trailing arms & knackered bushes. Worn trailing arm mount. Rusty spring pads. Knackered wheel bearing...

Re: Alternator Bracket
FWIW, in case you weren't aware and its causing any confusion when speccing parts, the v-belt accessory setup in the pic is not from an AAZ. The AAZ used a ribbed belt, different pulleys, alternator, alternator bracket. You have a 'bitsa' setup, of which some bits have been modded by the sound of i...

Alternator Bracket
I bought a new alternator for my Westy which has a AAZ engine fitted. The old alternator was never correctly aligned with the pulleys but it worked so I never investigated why. Now I come to fit the new one and alignment is further out. Both alternators are the same but my old one looks like it had ...

Re: Washing your van with parrafin
I was talking to a retired bodyshop painter about looking after the matt finish on my ex-army truck and he told me the army would just wipe them down with diesel.
