Re: 82 high top back from the dead

Well we managed to get there and back with relative ease (lincs to gt yarmouth), timing still needs playing with a little, new grease cap required for drivers front hub, fitted new mirrors to stop them folding in at 50mph (old ones were tightened all the way) and new rocker cover gaskets to stop the...

Re: 82 high top back from the dead

Belated update. Repairs needed from above post all done with new pads and caliper. Took him out afterwards and had a few issues, fuel pump gave up 60 miles from home (spare one sat in garage at home  ), wheel bearings on front both gave up the ghost, exhaust tailpipe fell off and 009 dizzy fin...

Re: Oops!!

Currently doing a little freshen up of my carbs and ignition system using the same distributor and would just like to say that this thread has been invaluable to me. Every time I'm unsure of something I just come back and check on here. Fantastic thread :ok

Set the choke units up by a guide I found on google and all is well again.

It's great to actually be able to drive it again :ok

Re: Engine Not Firing

I've had a very similar problem and narrowed it down to the auto chokes or thermo springs as today I managed to start it by loosening the choke unit and turning it until the flaps were slightly open. It ran a treat and made me happy again.

Re: 2.0 cu solex twin carb auto choke set up help

I will take some photo's tomorrow. Not much help without pics I know but it wouldn't run without half throttle then I opened the choke a little by loosening the units and turning them slightly. It was never that good at starting when cold but after I did this it struck up straight away. Just wonderi...

2.0 cu solex twin carb auto choke set up help

As per the title really, been having a few running issues and after replacing a knackered dizzy, setting static timing and adjusting a few things I got it started by manually setting the auto chokes to open and it ran a treat. I suspect these have never been right as they have been a bit hit and mis...

Re: Valves not opening, Aircooled cu

Ok, today I checked everything I had done and still no luck apart from spluttering like it wanted to start. Stripped and cleaned both carbs and tried again, managed to get it running by holding it at half throttle. Manually opened the chokes on both carbs as I had a sneaky feeling they were an issue...

Re: Valves not opening, Aircooled cu

If you've swapped a 009 dizzie for the standard one you need to time the engine statically first. The position for the timing mark on the rim is different between the two dizzies from what I remember. Just because you're getting a spark doesn't mean it's firing at the right time or even on the righ...

Re: Valves not opening, Aircooled cu

Had a quick look and they look in situ.

On closer inspection they do seem to be moving but not by much at all, hardly noticeable. Will have a better look tomorrow.

Valves not opening, Aircooled cu

Advice needed, swapped distributors from points to electronic as it was suffering a bad misfire then wouldn't start again. Fitted the new dizzy and it coughed a bit then went back to non starting. I've checked for spark and all is ok, stripped and rebuilt carbs then a gut feeling told me to take the...

Re: some photos of my van....

Looking good :ok Mine has the same top too, didn't like it at first but it's really grown on me, the young un loves her "bedroom" and the missus no longer wants a tin or pop top as it wont have the same space or storage potential. Good choice to keep it.
