Re: awning suitability

I had an Outwell Air beam awning from JK. It was great the first few times I used it, but I was at a festival one weekend and it poured down on the final day, so I just threw the awning in the back of the van to fold up nicely when I got home. The next time I used it, I found it would slowly deflate...

Re: Flooring

Two packs of stick on floor tiles, directly to the wooden floor worked for me. Foil bubble wrap under the wood for additional insulation. Beats boring old chequered pattern!Image

Re: Ignition spark dying straight after starting? 2.0l CU (Vid)

Haha! Sussed it. Embarrasingly I had connected the ignition unit's earth wire to the oil pressure sensor, not to the earth blade terminal hidden away under the dizzy. This would explain why I only got an initial spark as once oil pressure was achieved the earth for the ignition would be disconnected...

Re: Ignition spark dying straight after starting? Wierd.

I know what you're saying. Although I had a second go at my issue this afternoon which discounts that issue. I used a connection from the alternator (Which runs directly from the battery) to power the ignition components directly with +12V. This lead to the same issue, so discounts the electrics on ...

Ignition spark dying straight after starting? 2.0l CU (Vid)

Finally got the camper on four wheels after a full engine rebuild. Got the engine running before installation to see if there were any issues and it fired up great. http://youtu.be/HCIXXKuCSYk I have tried to fire her up today and she turns over fine. I know compression is good and fuel is fine. Aft...

Re: Brand New Hydraulic Lifters - Lazy Bleeding?

I've got Jake Raby's Type 4 DVD to aid me in the build. Lifters are vertical in oil for the week. They've not got circlips, instead they have wire clips. They've been submerged in oil for the week with an occational push down on the plunger. Most are now giving good resistance but one or two are not...

Re: Brand New Hydraulic Lifters - Lazy Bleeding?

Cracking, Cheers guys :D I've fitted a new 107i Web Cam which is suitable for hydraulic lifters. I've applied the cam lube to the lobes and saved a bit for the followers. Will get them soaking in oil as I'm not getting them in until the weekend. I'll need to run the engine at approx 2000RPM for abou...

Re: Brand New Hydraulic Lifters - Lazy Bleeding?

Right.. PM Sent. Apologies for misreading. I'm hoping I may just find my answer to my original question as I just want a simple yes or no . Just wondering why people don't just get a link to a manual every time there's a question in a technical forum? The reason I have posted this paticular query is...

Brand New Hydraulic Lifters - Lazy Bleeding?

I'm currently rebuilding my 2.0 CU engine and will be fitting brand new lifters (Along with new 107i Web cam). I know you have to bleed/fill the new lifters with oil after reading the Wiki and searching on 'hydraulic lifters'. Is it neccessary to dismantle them to fill them properly or can they be p...

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley Loose

I'm not experienced in your engine, but if the pulley is like that, anything that runs on that belt won't be working properly. IF it's what powers your water pump it'd definately cause your issues. If may work slightly at lower speeds as you say, but not keep up at higher revs. Turning that wheel sh...

Re: Aircooled thermostats...

That's good to know. It saves faffing with a 'new' thermostat. Just a case of sealing any holes properly to ensure no leaks then, like the rest of the tinware!

Re: Aircooled thermostats...

Hmm, interesting stuff. So bin the wibbly wobbly flaps or not then :?: It'd certainly be the easiest option for me. I'm not planning to be driving during the winter months (Not that that makes any difference in this country!). I can always retrofit, depending on how I get on with it. I'm fitting goo...

Re: Gearboxes - How far do I go?

Hi Aiden, thanks for the info. Found all the bits on Brickwerks ok for about £20 (Including a bellhousing gasket). Nice one :ok Bentley manual? Is that a nickname for the Haynes or something else entirely? Is there anyone who sells diff re-build kits or has a good selection of other gearbox gubbins ...
