Re: JX to AAZ conversion advice
Great thanks. Don't suppose you know the length and thread size of pipe. I know a local firm who would make one. Could I just take the old one along with me do you reckon? Although the one on my van would be too short I would think as it runs from turbo to block.

JX to AAZ conversion advice
Hi I have discovered my van has a steady oil leak. I'm after some advice the van has been converted from original 1.6td Jx to 1.9td aaz. The leak is coming from the sump. When the conversion was done the original turbo oil return pipe location was kept in the block. The return port in the sump has b...

Re: Poorly syncro diesel
Well just a quick update. I removed the pump and took it to a well respected diesel specialist. He bench tested the pump and couldn't get it to rev past 1300. The pump delivering a fraction of the pressure it should. It was stripped rebuilt with new parts re tested. I refitted it last night and star...

Re: Poorly syncro diesel
I don't think so. I've run it from a container of diesel and still the same. I'll try it again once I get some more time. If its running from feed pipe straight into clean diesel where else could it draw in air from

Re: Poorly syncro diesel
I really need some advice now. I have fitted a new filter. No difference. There seems to be a lot of air in the clear feed line. When revved as much as it will allow 1500 the air is slowly drawn in to pump as soon as it's ticking over air emerges again. The van ticks over lovely. Ive cracked each in...

Re: Poorly syncro diesel
I've been tinkering much to annoyance of neighbours. Just cracked each injector pipe in turn and get pulsing spraying diesel and engine starts to rumble. As soon as tighten engine ticks over fine. I undid the drain on underside of filter and loads of watery diesel comes out. However there is loads o...

Re: head gasket.
It the square piece of alloy directly above oil filter. Remove filter, on underside is a 27mm nut that unscrews, remove two coolant lines and slide off cooler. You'll need the o ring that fits between oil feed plate and cooler. Don,t be tempted not to replace this o ring as it will weep oil once dis...

Re: head gasket.
I'm no whizz with vans but don't the 1.6 have a reputation of cracks in head. Also does yours have an oil cooler seen lots of people take head off golfs after seeing oil in coolant when it was only cooler knacked

Re: Poorly syncro diesel
I've been having same thoughts I'll stick some fresh diesel in a new filter and bleed it. Once it's running well ( hopefully) I'll check timing as well. I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'd have thought air in system would cause non start rather than no revs. It ticks over lovely. However the...

Re: Poorly syncro diesel
Thanks for that. I've just been tinkering again. I can see the feed at base going into filter and then return from pump going in next to sender as you say. I've checked the turbo intake off and can move turbine and revving it up it's turning. I'm still of the opinion it's a fuel issue. There is a co...

Poorly syncro diesel
Can anyone here tell me how many ports for fuel lines there are on a 1988 diesel syncro fuel tank. I took a bodged and leaking aux fuel tank off my van a few weeks ago. It had two electric pumps and t pieces into what I believe is the feed from the base of tank. The other from the return from pump. ...

Re: JX Overheating
I'd be amazed if the head is shot after only a few miles it definately appears to be fuel related. Even if it was head gasket it would still run. The amount of smoke coming out would mean it would be drinking coolant. I've blown a head gasket on a petrol golf before and that blew steam out like a st...
