Re: Mains hook-up dangers
Sorry to resurrect this thread Again) but from what I read there is a definitive need for an earth to chassis as well as the RCD/breaker in a consumer unit, yes? I don't very often use EHU, I think twice in 6 years but I don't have an earth or consumer unit. All I have is the input which then goes d...

help!
Currently on the side of the N147, waiting for the engine to cool
Might be the dalek cap as the expansion tank is full and the header is below min!
Apart from the cap itself what else could cause this?

Re: Disconnecting bus bar
Adding on to this, the bus bar had actually snapped at the second plug. I was able to remake the broken end into an eyelet to go over the plug post and screw it down tight. I made sure the two mating surfaces were very clean before that. I'm now worried I may have bodged the continuity for the other...

Re: Disconnecting bus bar
Aye Baz, I do have to! Plus solder the main connection as the old crimp let go!
The old glow plug is now in 2 pieces, sure that's not meant to happen!!!!!
Another quick one, the breather cap on the rocker cover, that's not a servicable item is it?, i.e. take it apart to clean it?
Jon

Disconnecting bus bar
I am trying to change my coolant flange as there is a slight weep from the base. I went to undo the small (8mm) nut on the top and somehow that threaded shaft is turning, is that the glow plug now knackered? I do have spares but they have been performing fine and didn't really want to change that, d...

Hey Ralph, see that rear window of yours, is that a vinyl patterned sticky cover? Where did you get it, was it glass specific or just a general use sheet?

Re: Smoking JX- MOT failure
That's very interesting as mine is just starting to do that and I'm due for my annual test on Monday, no time to get the injectors sorted before then as it's first thing Monday. Looks like my fingers and toes will be crossed. Hopefully a chat with my soon to be friendly specialist mechanic will be i...

Re: Oil filter housing
I was thinking about the 'JB weld' method but worried about clogging up the feed and not getting a viable pressure reading. Timeserts, do they have the wire across the end? would that not also restrict the flow? The main problem is having to do this in situ when the housing has been torqued down, wh...

Re: Oil filter housing
Aye, it might come to that, quite limited in the taps and dies selection but will have a look today. Obviously I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer Jon (this is all to do with the supposed enhanced ITV where they are supposed to be extra vigilant with things like oil leaks. It was just a weep and...

Oil filter housing
Back in the summer I had a leak from the base of the housing, new gasket and sealer bought and applied, problem was I got a bit ham handed when screwing in the oil pressure sensor, consequently stripping the thread inside! Patched up with a bit of sealer, enough to get me back home from Scotl...

That's interesting as mine is now smoking (same engine)
Did you consider having your original turbo re-worked or was it too far gone for that?

Re: 1990, 1.6 turbo post-starting problem
I don't have that problem but the previous post mentioned seeing air in the fuel lines. While I was in the engine bay yesterday I noticed a bubble of air in the line from the filter to the pump. Started the engine (no probs) and watched as that bubble was drawn to the pump, I then noticed a steady s...

Re: What lift on a trolley jack?
I was very lucky, I saw an ad for a second hand Halfords long chassis 3 tonne quick lift trolley jack, £50! I called the guy straight away, he was surprised as he had only posted it 10 mins before. Tripped on down to Edinburgh and picked it up, it was like new, apparently only used about 6 times! Ba...
