It is the front brakes but the 1st gear issue is the most concerning.
Glad your pooch is back to good health

Re: Gear selection and brake binding issues when hot
Yes, however he's much better than most and used to walk for miles prior to his torn cruciate. He's got a face that looks more grumpy than usual at the moment. How long did it take for your dog to be back to normal(ish).
Any ideas about the campers issues?

Re: Gear selection and brake binding issues when hot
He's a British bulldog, therefore the anaesthetic procedure is far more dangerous. Hence the extra cost.

Gear selection and brake binding issues when hot
Hello, We had to take the dog for a cruciate ligament operation this week. When he was discharged and £4000.00 later I put him in the van for the journey home and the bloody M62 was gridlocked. The van was getting warm and we struggled to find 1st gear and the brakes started to bind, causing a loud ...

Re: crankcase/flywheel oil seal/clutch replacement
Hello,
Did this exact job a few weeks ago. I bought the flywheel locking tool that made life much easier.
It's possible to use a 2ft breaker bar, if the van is on ramps at the rear.
Give me a shout if you need any more help.
If your stuck then PM me and I'll send you my phone number.

Re: WBX Oil leak
Definitely sounds like the crankshaft oil seal. I replaced mine last week and due to advice by others changed the spiggot bearing, gearbox input shaft oil seal and starter bush at the same time. It took me about 6 hours in total but I'd recently changed the drive shaft bolts that were a bugger to ge...

Re: Oil overfill
Update The crankshaft oil seal and gearbox input shaft seal have been replaced. No major sign of leaking though as I would have expected for the amount of oil in the bell housing. All parts cleaned up and just waiting for my order from Brickwerks to arrive. I ordered new flywheel bolts, a new spiggo...

Re: Oil overfill
Gearbox out and that's all for today. Just a couple of questions; What should I use to clean up the spilt oil in the bell housing? Degreaser etc Is it worth changing the release bearing? Do I need to empty the engine oil, prior to changing flywheel oil seal? Should I replace the gearbox input shaft ...

Re: Oil overfill
Thanks dazco, Fingers crossed it all goes according to plan. I've found a place in Bolton that will rent a ramp for £10.00 per hour or £50.00 for eight hours. I may as well underseal it whilst I'm there, if time allows. I thought there would be more places that rented out ramps as it's a good idea b...

Re: Oil overfill
It was an independent garage in Bury, lancs.
He's worked on V.W's for years and seems to know his stuff. I've started to try and do repairs myself now because of the amount of issues I've had and the cost of paying garages.

Re: Oil overfill
Last time I had to pay £350.00 to have the van trailered from Bolton to Essex.
I then had to buy a train ticket and pick the van up, promptly braking down on the m25.
The only saving grace was that the RAC paid for my petrol home.
Good thinking regarding more frequent use though

It's not just a weep, after a 30 mile journey it was a heavy constant drip.
It's also affecting the clutch now

Re: Oil overfill
Thanks itchyfeet, I was stupidly expecting the oil seal to be ok as it's a recon engine from elite that's only done about 1000 miles. One of the many problems I've had with this 'refurbed' engine. My wife is now at the end of her tether with it and is suggesting getting rid. I've replaced almost eve...
