Re: Broken alternator bracket

Not sure if this is relevant or not but the bracket I sent Chris was from my '89 van although at some point an early DG engine has been swapped in.
Can't remember what amps my alternator was before it packed in either.

Didn't think a simple alternator bracket would cause so much debate :D

Just been and checked, and yes I have it, so it's yours :)

You want to collect from Doncaster/Sheffield or should I post it?

Drop me a PM

Re: Broken alternator bracket

When I changed my alternator for one off a Mk2 Golf GTI I used a bracket from an Audi 100.

Thinking about it, I may have the old one if you need it :)

Re: Petrol Pump broken (again!)

I have this fuel pump too (also purchased from BW) but have recently had problems with a flat spot at full throttle. Garage suspects a fuelling issue but I ruled out the pump since it's still fairly new. But looking at your link to heritage, it states that a 108mm pushrod is required for this pump. ...

Re: Which oil?

Good news.... She lives

Final diagnosis was crap in the fuel system, a hole in the filler neck, and a leaky exhaust but will all be fixed this time tomorrow.

Lesson learned about not checking oil level before topping up.

Still have a possible faulty oil warning light to keep an eye on.

Re: Which oil?

Garage have done a compression test and said everything looks fine. They did an oil pressue test and said that it was "acceptable" RAC guy changed the plugs to no avail and last i spoke to the garage he was going to do the same. I'm not particularly convinced by the "expert" diag...

Re: Which oil?

Did you check the dipstick, or did you just fill the oil to the top? I've seen that before! Ummm, No. <slaps wrist> i just bunged some extra oil in. I'd checked it the night before and noticed it was a bit low (about mid way) but nothing to worry about. Would too much oil pressue cause damage to th...

Re: Which oil?

Diagnosis from my local independent VW specialist is that the engine is probably toast. She's suffering from a huge misfire and unless this is a massive coincidence and not caused by my overfilling of oil, then I've done serious internal damage to the engine. His solution is a new engine. I know it'...

Re: Which oil?

Never been sure if my bod works either. Bus has previously had an aftermarket oil pressure gauge fitted which was reading ok ( if only I'd looked at that before topping up - or checked the dipstick) oh, we'll, lesson learned. And yes, the oil light came on as I was passing a motor spares shop Awaiti...

Re: Which oil?

Thanks guys, you were spot on. Oil level wasn't low and I overfilled it.
RAC man drained some out but oil in carb and everywhere. Still not running right but off to garage for a checkup.

Which oil?

Sat at the roadside waiting for the RAC. Had a breakdown with big plumes of smoke from engine. Oil light came on so stopped at a motor factors and bought some 15w40 mineral oil. Now thinking it maybe should have been synthetic? If I have got it wrong and mixed my oils, what damage am I likely to hav...

Carb swap

Asked this already on the MK2 Golf forum and got no answer so thought i'd try here. My 1.3 golf has a pierburg 2E3 carb on it whereas my 1.9 T25 has the single weber. The Mk2 bods recommend the weber and i know people on here prefer the pierburg. Is it a simple task to swap the 2 over? Assuming i sw...
