Re: HELP! Trailing arm removal -help needed in Chesterfield

Yeah, the brake pipe nuts became rounded, and i think it will need a new pipe.

None of the bolts wanted to budge at all. The brake back plate is also really rusty, so I have a new one to fit.

Re: HELP! Trailing arm removal -help needed in Chesterfield

Thanks Ian I know Autohause Dolby. They have a garage over in the east end of Sheffield where I work. My van went in for a service there when I first bought it. I don't think Matt is a mobile mechanic though. I just need someone with the know how to be able to remove the main bolts, and get the whee...

HELP! Trailing arm removal -help needed in Chesterfield

Hi all I dont know if anyone can offer any help or advice here. My van is needing its drivers side trailing arm replacing, as it has cracks in it. Myself and my mate have started the job at his place in Chesterfield, but we have run into problems getting bolts out etc. We have realised that the job ...

81 Aircooled - Rear Offside Swing Arm Cracked

Hi all Just noticed that my swing arm has some corrosion cracks near the outer mounting point. Pretty disappointed to as the least! Couple of questions if anyone can help me. First, I am assuming the part is shot and needs replacing. If so, any ideas where I can get one? Next, how complicated a job ...

Re: Most Likely Location For Oil Leak?

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I will give the engine underside a clean with some gunk and have a look.

Is the oil pressure switch a quick fix?

Most Likely Location For Oil Leak?

Hi All I am fixing up my 81 Aircooled 2 litre van. Been doing it for about two years now, but mainly focusing on the interior so far. Mechanically it is fine and drives well. Used on the school run every morning too. It has always had a bit of an oil leak, nothing major. Very much a small, one drop ...

Re: 82 Aircooled smelling heavily of exhaust fumes when stopped?

Hi I guess it must be oil somewhere. Just been out to it again after being parked up for some hours, and it still smells kind of oily. Thing is, the heat exchangers look pretty clean. Would they be pretty oily if they were being leaked onto, or would it all burn off? If it is oil getting onto them, ...

82 Aircooled smelling heavily of exhaust fumes when stopped?

Hi all My van has started to smell very strongly of exhaust fumes after I have stopped. This is outside the van, i dont think its getting inside until the van is stopped. It didn't used to do this. I know it has a slight oil leak, but this doesn't smell of oil, but very much of exhaust. I haven't ha...

Have a look at the front seat "boxes", there might be enough room to let something small in there?

That's a shame Dave. I had some holes cut into mine by Chris at Retro Retrims. No extra charge either.

Re: Triming by Retro Retrims

I had door cards for front doors and slider made last year. I have just ordered some additional ones for the tailgate and rear side panel too. They are excellent quality. Mine had a custom colour stitching too, to match the colour the van will be, one day. Sometimes they take a bit longer to arrive ...

Re: Best way to remove the quarter light glass from doors?

Thanks guys

Thought it might be something like that. I will try the plastic spreader to try to lift a long section of the seal edge. That will probably do it.

Cheers

Re: Best way to remove the quarter light glass from doors?

Hi

I will add that the window guide holding the quarter light in place has been removed too, it's not that holding it in place anymore, just the rubber.

Best way to remove the quarter light glass from doors?

Hi I am doing a switchover of door fittings from my knackered old rusty door, to a bargain rust free version I grabbed from eBay. £21 ! I was going to leave all of the glass until I realised both door windows old and new had the reg plate security etched into the glass, and my OCD wouldn't let me le...

Re: Any difference between early and late model doors?

Thanks guys.

Is there any major issues in removing the window and lock mechanisms from an old door and replacing it into a new, empty door?

Any headaches to be aware of?
