Roof rack maximum weight

Hi All. I have just fitted a heavy duty roof rack to my westy poptop, and a Thule basket to that. I then went to raise the roof and found it really difficult. I had to adopt the weightlifter pose with my legs apart and arms straight lifting from the legs, and a reddened strain to my face to get it t...

Re: Low power & pinking after carb overhaul

Hi, I have the van back from lpg conversion and fault persists. It still feels a little gutless on either fuel. It does reach good speed but there is no "grunt". I have just checked the vacuum valve on the back of the carb that opens the second butterfly choke, and found it is sticking. I ...

Re: Low power & pinking after carb overhaul

Oh and itchyfeet, your idea was exactly my first thought. I tested by sucking on the pipe with the throttle open (not running) and it worked fine.

Re: Low power & pinking after carb overhaul

Hi all. Thanks for all the ideas. I dropped it at the garage and it struggled to restart when warm. The timing is well advanced according to the garage. He is going to strobe it before he starts o n it. It does point to my carb clean, new seals, and all new vacuum pipes changed the vacuum and advanc...

Low power & pinking after carb overhaul

Message for the oracles. I recently had moments of power loss on a 1.9 dg then all would be fine again, so I overhauled the carb (pierburg) & this has got rid of that problem. However now she seems down on power and I noticed just now on a long run (20mile) that there is like a pinking when I gi...

Re: Is this a valve problem :(

Cheers Kev. That is a very detailed explanation - Ta Much. I am away this weekend but will buy a compression guage and try to set them precisly. Thats great and really encouraging as it sounds like the rough adjustment might be to blame. I will try to set in the evening next week and let you mnow if...

Re: Is this a valve problem :(

Hi All. This sounds so much like the problem I am having and makes very interesting reading. Last October I had new hydraulic lifters fitted to one side (1.9 dg)that had got VERY noisy and were causing huge loss of power, and have thought since that it was slightly down on power. Garage said theyt d...

Re: She is finally finished

Hi guys thanks for your interest, and yes I rather like the colour now. I had to respray in original Aswan brown as it matches collars and cuffs and is still close to an original van. The lights are from a mkii golf and I still need to align them properly to get max benefit but I hope they are bette...
