Re: Low compression on two cylnders help 2.0 cu

do you have any tell tale signs of damage? i had two low compression readings on my cu but also a 'james bond' style trail of white smoke behind me whenever i put my foot down, and tbh fairly poor performance to go with it. at the time wasnt sure whether she was a keeper so pulled the engine out (11...

Re: 2.0 air cooled carbs ????

Did another 3200 mile round trip to Murcia again this summer. Returned 27.6 mpg this time. Difference being the route home via Massif Central this year. Poor Doris wasn't quite so happy with that route. Still pretty good figures though I reckon for a 2.0l cu standard twin solex set up.

Re: 2.0 air cooled carbs ????

does seem a bit low. mid 20's for me standard day to day and on our holiday last year down to murcia we averaged 28.8mpg running standard solex setup. (although i believe they were freshly refurbed not long before i bought them). i am pretty careful on the right foot and much of the journey was on t...

Re: Oops!!

Hello, The object of the exercise is to remove the 'lacquer' in the bores, smooth out small scratches, and provide a more 'clingy' surface for the engine oil.. :ok I really don't want to labour the point but what is this "laquer/glaze" you speak of again? and I would certainly never repla...

Re: Oops!!

Hello, Sorry if I have been mis leading... the operation was to deglaze, (de-lacquer in French), the bores prior to fitting new rings.. Honing is, as you say after reboring.. absolutely not misleading at all and certainly no need to apologise, i dont know the difference between honing and deglazing...

Re: Oops!!

nice thread indeed. always take on board all the stuff you post as its very informative but have one query. I always honed the bores on a rebuild following a rebore but never did when just re ringing pistons. if there was any scratching it was rebored, and therefore honed otherwise it seemed a waste...

Re: some pics of the devon

when we did our devon poptop earlier this year we found a very similar carpet to th original style in a local carpet store. they had to order some for us. i think it was called "spitfire". might be worth a look? http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p530/sooperspur/IMG_0014-1.jpg http://i115...

No hook-up but free and you can park for 48hrs and bang in the centre of Reims. we just stayed overnight but i shall return there for a longer stay sometime as i didnt have a chance to look around and it looks a great place. Quite secluded too. not an easy place to find. let me know if you want dire...
