Re: seam sealer preservation
Hi, Finally Remembered I'd seen this Bilt Hamber stuff ...................auto-balm will seal capillary pores in paintwork and provide an anticorrosion barrier to stone-chips and other damaged sites on vehicle paintwork........... Bit pricey, but used sparingly SEAMS it may go further than it you th...

Re: seam sealer preservation
S'ok, I'm not a compete expert, but the thing is, I've seen this ''parting in the middle seam sealer' on vans. Figure it can't help. Rust from back; why certainty Stanley, but maybe not exclusively. Anyway, I guess you end up looking at / protecting / repairing both sides of the seam as others have ...

post head round off, suggest: chisel is a single piont of cut/puchase with shock impact, on a mis-shapen head/ round profile. The impact shock helps release. Expansion Set Socket-thingies multi point of cut/puchase on mis-shapen/rounded head, however shock impact dependant on tool used. Maybe some i...

Re: cv joint problems
Re: expansion Set previous posts Aidan “the best tool set addition for rusty old vans IMHO”: Just had look at those Expansion Set Socket-thingies – I think they may have their uses when: • The hole isn’t blind, like into a casting (always a suck air-white-knuckle ride anyways) • The fixing re-use do...

Re: seam sealer preservation
Hi, Some say it always gets you from behind, some say it comes from the front and its former favourite food is Vauxhall Crestas, all we know is its changed its diet and its called Seam Rash.......... Prevention: Consider • If inside storage not an option, (outside = British climate = steel dissolves...

Re: oil sump plug
Yep, there can be that 'mare. Theoretically  If all goes to plan, shall remove with correct tool, new or old check set gap, re-fit initially by hand to avoid cross thread (cross owner), then got a torque wrench to seat plugs whilst avoiding over tightening - if there is a force to be gleaned f...

Similar here, don’t do anywhere near enough ........... off-topic yellow-alert! Back to 1983 2.0-litre A/C CI Kamper: V.nearly a ‘get experienced help with this’ situation for me also. Plus there’s the possibility of deep-fail moment on a simple oil change, whilst reading what others deal with on th...

Re: oil sump plug
Hi, Just for the record I had exactly the same thing on the first oil change in my ownership, and solved it almost exactly the same way. Posted a few months-ish ago. Plug would not release. I didn't fancy it, but non the less in the end approached the warm engine armed with an 1/2 socket and a (too)...

Re: 2 litre CU A/C - Oil strainer plate
Didn't mention it initially, but oil was changed via the strainer plate fixing hole the first time as the sump plug didn't want to release with out the risk of damage either. However, was sure I could sort it and have done today with a better tool. The plug and threads are fine. :) relief. Then rain...

Re: 2 litre CU A/C - Oil strainer plate
just to get back. got man flu at moment, plus wind x rain minus garage = take a look over weekend. Understand what you mean by being a bit of a throw back. however just want it to be like it should be i s'pose, in the sense if I didn't clean it it would be because I chose not to, rather than because...

Re: 2 litre CU A/C - Oil strainer plate
Wilco re images, & shall try the knife approach. Like you say, this is probably not an isolated case, so maybe one for the record for those in similar circumstances. Was unexpected the first time. If knife struggles, as plate it is inset in the case, may also fashion something to get in, good fi...

Re: 2 litre CU A/C - Oil strainer plate
CovKid, Thanks for the steer, & sounds like a plan. You may be spot on with the sealant idea, I noticed what looks to be a blue-tinge around both sump and strainer areas, slight, but there none the less. Thanks again for takin time out to reply, and I shall no doubt be posting an epic-fail rever...

2 litre CU A/C - Oil strainer plate
re -1983 2-litre CU A/C type IV Oil strainer plate arrangement hi, advice sought; Just after getting the van I changed the oil. When I removed the strainer plate fixing, the plate didn't want to release from the casing and drop down. Hardly a master mechanic-ing start I know - but there we have it :...
