Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
I think you are correct about the regulator effecting the fuel and temp gauges. I will try your suggestion of wiring 12 volts on the table, that's a great idea, thanks. My neighbor down the road cannot find his spare cluster, so I cannot test it that way. (I was just going to wack his one in and see...

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
....which leads me neatly onto.....
Just what have I fixed with the 2 x earth leads I put new ends on and connected to the crown???
Well I believe that all the lights on the cluster appear to be a whole lot brighter.
????

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
If its mostly not broke dont try to fix it.. Yes....I have taken the decision not to tinker....the thought of snapping that brittle blue foil fills me with dread. The cluster sits on my kitchen side taunting me as I type....but I must have a van that drives! This is the last niggle to fix before ca...

Re: 'funny' ignition timing
I found a T-bar connector with a missing connection in the middle of my vacuum advance cable, so it was sucking air in and not advancing properly. Some GIT from history had advanced the dizzy +15 degree to get the damn thing to run..... Obviously fuel consumption was a problem. When I found it....I ...

Re: Van won't start but has power
done a quick search and GHOST123 mentioned in a different post.... "If you can hear the solenoid giving a healthy click, then it is likely the very short heavy wire that goes from the solenoid to the starter or the starter itself (assuming battery and ... try it. If no go then it would look lik...

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
Mystery connections at back of blue foil. I am guessing that they would / should connect to a clock IF it was fitted instead of the tacho? IMG_0281.jpg Also these foil connectors look brand new! IMG_0283.jpg I can hear a little rattle inside the tacho as I move it, I think something is loose inside?...

I have one of them too....having just been under there to check my earths for faulty tachometer problem.....
Didn't fix my problem even with replacing 2 earths, and don't know what that is we have all got either.
Sorry

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
RATS!!!!!
Really thought I had fixed it then.....took the fuse box out and removed every earth from the 2 crowns.
Replaced 2 spade connectors as they had broken.
Put it all back, turned the key....bam! Rev counter still springs round all the way.

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
Yes I was thinking that. Funny I went out to walk the dog and passed an old air cooled transporter, knocked on his door had a chat and he thinks he might have a spare cluster kicking around. So I thought of swapping it over just to see if I get the same. He's having a search, in the meantime I will ...

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
Must admit, I looked at the regulator and doesn't look dark in places as I read it could be if burnt out.

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
Aha you talking about the pictures????
Not the temp works fine, those pictures were taken with ignition key turned on, and instant picture, on a cold engine, not running.
Temp gauge works fine and when fan kicks in drops fine too. No probs there I believe

Re: Tachometer Functioning incorrectly
Sorry for the bump, but could do with some help really. 44 views and no reply, am I breaking forum rules by asking obviously stupid questions? I have trawled through wiki, read up on the Bentley manual, read through other people's troubles as much as I can get away with in one working day..... :oops...
