Re: Hydraulic Lifters noisy when engine warm. 1.9 DG
My 2.1 does the same thing except the noise goes away somewhat when the revs go up. I was told it could be a camshaft bearing. I'm hoping all the bearings were replaced when Elite recon'd the engine, I believe it to have < 1000 miles on it since then (if the old MOT's are owt to go by). When I took...

Re: gearbox oil
I used a straight SAE80 GL4 ( I think it was carlube of carplan), that was 4.5L too.
Cost me about £15 from a local motorist store (Godfrey Autoparts).

Re: Hydraulic Lifters noisy when engine warm. 1.9 DG
Thanks Kev, I've had a quick skim through as there's alot to take in in that article. I've used Ratwell's site when I was looking at stuff for the Bay, never thought to look for the T25 stuff as he's more geared to Air-cooled. I didn't see my symptoms listed, but reading between the lines it seems l...

Re: 1.9DG Head been skimmed
There are more knowledgable folk on here than me but although it's not advised, as you said, I think I saw somewhere that a small amount can be removed from the base of the head, so long as the same amount is removed from the recessed combustion chamber / valve area. But I bow to anyone elses better...

Hydraulic Lifters noisy when engine warm. 1.9 DG
I've done a search on here and checked the Wiki first, so sorry if I'm pissing anyone off but, I seem to have the reverse problem to everyone else who has noisy tappets. Mine are quite and the engine sounds sweet as a nut when first started and run, it's not until it's warmed upto normal running tem...

It's also worth checking the multiway connector on the back of the dash / instrument panel as well. I had a intermittent oil pressure LED that turned out to be that connector, the copper tracks tarnish over the years and lead to poor contacts there too. Dan. PS. Your bus is almost identical to mine,...

Re: Rounded Sump Nut - Now what?
It was all warmed up. I never drain cold oil.
I'd taken it on a good long run, got it nice and hot. By the time I'd finished trying to crack it though, that was a waste of time and petrol!
Those Irwin bolt extractors are the dogs danglies though.
Dan.

Re: Rounded Sump Nut - Now what?
Thanks for all the help chaps, I'd proper mashed the sump nut welding things to it, using pipe wrenchs and banging on undersized sockets, all to no avail. I bought a set of the Irwin Bolt Extractors that Aidan posted the link to, only I got mine from Machine Mart because I needed them straight away....

Re: Rounded Sump Nut - Now what?
I shall try some of those, Machine Mart sell them and they're open tomorrow (bank hol).
I hope the work, nothing else I've tried has, I'm worried the thread will strip.
Cheers.

Rounded Sump Nut - Now what?
When I bought my van, the owner had put a recon engine in and then left the van sat for three years. So it's never had an oil change. It's a 1.9 waterboxer, DG code. Now I've bought it and it looks although the recon company fitted a chewed up sump nut then painted all the crankcases. Now I've clean...

Re: Exhaust U-Clamp sizes for 1.9 DG Waterboxer.
It was leaking a bit as I had to open up the pipe like a flowering plant to get the J tubes out when I did my waterjacket seal. I managed to get it something like with some oversized jubilee clips and then my local Kwik Fit rather nicely gave me a couple of 42mm U-bolts, which is holding it together...

And Sh!tbucket, my wife has just forced me to sit on our hillside, take in the view, and have a beer to calm me down. Yes, Ceredigion is a lovely place and we live close to the edge of the Cambrian mountains, not far from Devil's Bridge and Cwmystwyth. In fact, we have trouble thinking of places we...

BTW, I've just had a weeks holiday in Ceredigion. Beautiful part of the world, loved it. You're very lucky to live around there.

Re: Water jacket seal
If not alot more work to just do the job right. People on this forum have managed to fit the liner base seal without taking the liners from the pistons. But the top end stuff, should just be changed, it's just good practise. He's not saving himself any work as I see it. The kit of gaskets is economi...

Re: Water jacket seal
I've just done one on my 1.9 DG and although I wouldn't do it with the engine situ, some would. If the barrels come out (because they are stuck to the cylinder head), then you should replace the cylinder liner base seals. There is also a pair of liner seals at the top, as well as two metal head gask...
