Hi
The ignition key barrel has popped out of my 30 year old T25. I can't get it back in enough to turn the starter. I can still start the van by poking a small socket in the barrel hole. Does anyone has any tips on re-fitting the key barrel?
Thanks
Adam

Re: Very fast revs from DG 1.9
Hi Waltraud - I'm not sure I understand this. Which wires would you join together? How about you take the two connections from the idle stabilisation and join them together. I swapped from DF to DG and it helped a lot to reduce the revs. Dazzzer1 - It's not the cable. I'm not sure if I need the stab...

Re: Very fast revs from DG 1.9
Thanks for the responses Kevtherev - As you say I may need to check the stepped mechanism on the automatic choke. I think the carb has to come off for this, so I just wanted to rule out other things such as wrongly connected wires, first. I was looking at one of your previous posts and wondered if y...

Re: Very fast revs from DG 1.9
Hi - thanks for your replies. Em - The revs are very high and don't drop when I blip the throttle. Ian - The black box between the control unit and the coil. Haynes call 'Idle stabilising unit'. Its on the first picture in the Ignition system chapter. I just thought that something they call 'Idle st...

Very fast revs from DG 1.9
Hi, I replaced an overheated dg engine with a secondhand one. This is now installed but revs very high when I start it up. I am not sure why. The old engine had a solex carb & the new one has pierburg carb. Also the distributor is slightly different. The old one had 2 vacuum connections and the ...

Melting wires 1.9 DG
I have fitted a new engine (from the breakers). I have had it running, and when sorting out leaks in the coolant pipes some of the wires started melting. I think maybe I had connected a positive wire to an earth on the outside of the distributor by mistake. Can anyone clarify where the wires should ...

Re: Removing fuel tank to replace metal coolant pipes
Thanks for all the advice. I have been offered some plastic coolant pipes off a 1986 caravelle. Does anyone know whether or not these will fit onto my van which is 1983 and has metal pipes? I understand that there were some changes to the pipes in 1985, but it would be cheaper if these fit. However ...

Removing fuel tank to replace metal coolant pipes
Having put in a new engine (from the breakers) to replace the one that overheated, I have found that the I need to replace the metal coolant pipes that run to the radiator. These go over the fuel tank. I need to drop the fuel tank to get them out. I have the van on a slope but raised at the back, as...

replacing 1.9 DG petrol with 1.6 JX diesel
After taking out my 1.9 dg petrol engine and finally removing the exhaust system, one of the heads is stuck on. One of the studs, no 4 in the tightening sequence seems to have welded its-self to the head. A friend has a 1.6 JX diesel engine for sale with mounting. If I fit this will the gear ratios ...

Re: Replacement DG petrol engine
The engine got hot enough for some of the wires on top to start melting. The compression is low. I am told that the main bearing seem ok. One of the spark plugs has chewed up the thread. I've started to take off the manifold and loosen 6 out of the 8 nuts/ bolts. One bolt has sheared off. The last b...

Re: Replacement DG petrol engine
Thanks for the replies. I now have the DG engine out and on my garage floor. I am thinking about rebuilding it, but don't know much about engines. The deal from Elite VW is the best I seen for reconditioned engines. I live in Cornwall and finding a local 2nd hand engine in good condition would be go...

Replacement DG petrol engine
my dg engine overheated in the summer. Replacement dg engines are expensive. I have been told that a golf/passat engine will go straight in and be more reliable. Is this an easy swap or will I need to modify anything?
