Re: Headlamp upgrade query - ensuring main beam dash light.
Hi Pete, I did a write up on this after I did it a few years back. With the method I used the main beam warning light works as expected. Hopefully it might be of use: viewtopic.php?p=8286443#p8286443

Re: Front lower panel rust repair
I've got this job coming up and I like the suggestion of bonding the join to the deformation panel. Out of interest, do you think there would be any compromise in strength by bonding over spot/plug welding?

Re: 2.1DJ idle and smells too rich.
Yes it's the allen head screw in the hole. What do you have the timing set to? By normal fuel I guess you mean 95 RON? in which case your timing should be 5 degrees BTDC. Yes go westy video is for a MV (digifant) engine. The manual I provided the link for on syncrosport is what you should follow for...

Re: 2.1DJ idle and smells too rich.
So two things here which might not be related: 1. Running rich: An injector being stuck open will cause rich running. There is a procedure for checking injectors amongst other digijet components in the workshop manual (http://syncrosport.com/info/manual/VW_Transporter_80-92_2-1_Inj_Ign.pdf). Have yo...

Re: Extra wires in the head-light loom
I believe those are for the dim dip circuit. I guess the loom you have came from a UK van, and in which case it would have had a resistor next to the offside headlamp. The white-ish two pin connector you have at the headlamp end connects to the resistor. For the two yellow single pin yellow connecto...

Re: Headlight relay upgrade
Just finished wiring in the relays, and I thought I'd do a write up in case it's of use to others who are interested in doing it in the same way. Firstly I would just like to caveat this by saying I am no expert in electronics, and this is just the way I decided to do it after reading up on the sub...

Re: Headlight relay upgrade
I've since decided to go with option B, mainly for two reasons. 1, post fusebox there are 4 wires going to headlamps (main and dipped for either side) which allows me to have a separate relay for either side in case a relay decides to fail. 2, the relay trigger circuit is still fused with the origin...

Re: Headlight relay upgrade
I took a feed direct from the main battery to the relays , so the original wiring only triggered the relay , which is the whole point of the job ..... Thanks Mocki, I came across that diagram when searching through some of the existing threads on the forum. What I am suggesting is the same as what ...

Headlight relay upgrade
I know this topic has been done to death, so I have tried to read as many old posts as I could find on here and the wiki but I still have a couple of questions. A few places are now selling a headlight relay upgrade loom that goes from the battery via relays to the headlights, triggered by the old h...

Re: Loose Spark Plug
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant the spark plug thread in the heads. I understand the threads on the spark plug itself will have a higher melting point being made from steel.Oldiebut goodie wrote: ↑08 Mar 2021, 14:42 It hasn't melted, it is the thread in the head that has melted - see photos.

Re: 2.1 DJ idle/CO
Successful day today. Adjusted the timing down to 10 degrees BTDC, which then gave me room to play with the idle/CO settings. After timing adjustment I was able to confirm vacuum retard is working (connected timing retards to ~TDC), and the DIS unit is working (connected timing advances back to fluc...

Re: 2.1 DJ idle/CO
Just a FYI the CO screw in the AFM has a o-ring seal on it, if this has failed or is damaged then air can be drawn down the threads Thanks Aidan I’ll check that. I have a spare AFM I tried but the problem remained. Off topic but what I did notice is my current AFM is made in France and my space is ...

Re: 2.1 DJ idle/CO
After a bit more reading of the workshop manual I think I'm on the right track with this: 1. DIS unit disconnected and connections bridged, yellow connection in front of DIS disconnected, disconnect and plug vacuum retard hose 4. adjust timing to 10 degrees BTDC (idle at 800 +/- 50) 5. with engine s...
