Thanks Aidan, and cheers for checking with Ian.
I'll give your cold/hot trick a go and see where that gets me.

Re: Rear wheel bearing replacement - housing wear
Thanks all,
What are people's thoughts on the bearing housing based on the photos? Are those pits in the metal normal near the bearing surfaces normal (i.e. from the casting process), or is it a sign that someone has been in there with a heavy hand?
Cheers,
Scott

Re: Rear wheel bearing replacement - housing wear
Thanks Aidan, Hopefully Ian will be along soon to share some wisdom! I'm wondering whether this housing is destined for the bin. The Surface for the outer bearing has some scoring and I'm wondering if this is due to the bearing spinning in the housing: https://i.imgur.com/arc3Zmk.jpeg https://i.imgu...

Is your 2.1 MV or DJ? I notice your distributor doesn't have a vacuum can so I assume MV? If it is DJ then you could have the wrong distributor fitted.

Re: Rear wheel bearing replacement - housing wear
Hi all, How do you go about determining wear in a wheel bearing housing? I started this thread as I am replacing both rear bearings after one failed on my way back from Italy earlier this year. When I came to press the failed bearings out of the housing, they basically fell out. I've got a 12 tonne ...

Is 10 tonne enough?
Looking to get a hydraulic press for the garage. I initially want it for wheel bearings but would like it to be capable of other jobs like bushings etc.
Can I get away with a 10 tonne hydraulic press? Once you go above 10 tonne they seem to all get significantly more expensive.
Cheers,
Scott

Rear wheel bearing replacement - CV joints
Whilst I'm here I thought I'd check my CV joints. What do people think of this amount of wear? OK to repack with grease and refit?

Rear wheel bearing replacement - housing wear
Obviously a topic that has been covered many times, but I have a particular question - do you grease the splines of the stub axle? And if so what's type of grease should be applied?

Scott

Re: Headlamp upgrade query - ensuring main beam dash light.
Hi Pete, I did a write up on this after I did it a few years back. With the method I used the main beam warning light works as expected. Hopefully it might be of use: viewtopic.php?p=8286443#p8286443

Re: Front lower panel rust repair
I've got this job coming up and I like the suggestion of bonding the join to the deformation panel. Out of interest, do you think there would be any compromise in strength by bonding over spot/plug welding?

Re: 2.1DJ idle and smells too rich.
Yes it's the allen head screw in the hole. What do you have the timing set to? By normal fuel I guess you mean 95 RON? in which case your timing should be 5 degrees BTDC. Yes go westy video is for a MV (digifant) engine. The manual I provided the link for on syncrosport is what you should follow for...

Re: 2.1DJ idle and smells too rich.
So two things here which might not be related: 1. Running rich: An injector being stuck open will cause rich running. There is a procedure for checking injectors amongst other digijet components in the workshop manual (http://syncrosport.com/info/manual/VW_Transporter_80-92_2-1_Inj_Ign.pdf). Have yo...

Re: Extra wires in the head-light loom
I believe those are for the dim dip circuit. I guess the loom you have came from a UK van, and in which case it would have had a resistor next to the offside headlamp. The white-ish two pin connector you have at the headlamp end connects to the resistor. For the two yellow single pin yellow connecto...

Re: Headlight relay upgrade
Just finished wiring in the relays, and I thought I'd do a write up in case it's of use to others who are interested in doing it in the same way. Firstly I would just like to caveat this by saying I am no expert in electronics, and this is just the way I decided to do it after reading up on the sub...
