DIY Headliner?
Hey there, My van is in need of a new headliner and I am hoping to make something myself. Replacements are not available in Chile and shipping here is outrageous. Anyone ever put together their own from fabric? A pattern or measurements perhaps? I have original HLer in the front third of the van, ri...

Re: Crankshaft Oil Seal...Again?
Thanks for all the replies! It's the front crankshaft seal (rear of the van) that is the problem...I'll for sure go with the later, more expensive seal as I'm sick of replacing it.

Re: Crankshaft Oil Seal...Again?
Thanks for the replies. What is the jackshaft? The leak I am referring to is coming from behind the crankshaft pulley/timing sprocket (I think). I can't see exactly where the oil is coming from as it is behind the black plastic cover. Other potential culprits?

Crankshaft Oil Seal...Again?
Hi...I've got an '89 1.7 KY diesel vanagon that appears to have blown it's second crankshaft oil seal in as many months. The engine was recently put in - a used jobbie and the seal was supposedly replaced when it was installed. It blew within a thousand K's or so and was, supposedly, replaced again....

Re: 1.7 KY Piston Rings?
Hi - Upon revising this list, it seems that there are dozens of models with the same ring set # (C1888). The difference is the line # - 40 vs 41 and 42. Any idea what line number refers to? Everything else seems the same...

Re: 1.7 KY Piston Rings?
Sorry - I went to get the van! Thanks for the info...a big help. Many of those cars are available here, so I will look around.
Thank you!
Thank you!

1.7 KY Piston Rings?
Hi all,
I am looking for new piston rings for my KY vanny and can't seem to find them anywhere. Can anyone recommend a supplier that can ship outside of Europe?
Thanks!!

Re: Coolant Leak
Thanks for the info...I'll replace it. Does a leak from the hole suggest imminent failure? Should this be fixed before it is driven again at all? I'm 40 or 50 Km from my mechanic....
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: Coolant Leak
Ok...so here's a photo. This is taken from the underside of the van, directly behind (or forward of) the water pump pulley. Coolant is leaking from here upon start-up, not flowing out but a steady drip. Like I said in the original post, when I left town a month ago, it wasn't leaking. I came back, s...

Coolant Leak
Hi all, My 1989 1.7 KY has developed a coolant leak. The coolant appears to be coming from a tiny hole just behind (forward of) the water pump pulley. It's a hole I never noticed before but seems like it is supposed to be there. It's maybe 1-2mm in diameter and faces downward. I'm afraid this means ...

Slurping oil
Hi all, I'm just back from my first holiday in my T3 1.7 diesel vanagon. Van is running great, starts like a dream and showed no signs of trouble. I see a small amount of bluish smoke on start up and it burps a bit of the same under a load (take-offs from stop lights, down shifts going uphill), but ...

Re: Dodgy Dipstick
Hi...thanks for the reply. This is what I did and the problem is that nothing is showing on the dipstick after refill! 4 L in, 4 out but barely a speck on the very tip of the stick. I'd mark it there, but I wouldn't then know the difference between a half liter down and 3 liters down. Shall pull the...

Dodgy Dipstick
Hi there, Wondering about the dipstick on my KY engine. I just replaced one KY engine with another and used various parts, including the dipstick from the old jobbie. It seems the dipstick is no longer registering anything, though I know it currently contains the correct amount of oil (4L without fi...

Re: Oil Pump Repair/Replace?
Thanks for the thoughts. I wish I knew the pressure at the head. I don't have a gauge. How would I go about checking if the constriction is after the filter? The filter is new (between first and second gasket failure), weather was coldest of the year on the 2 days it happened (~0º C) - van hasn't se...

Oil Pump Repair/Replace?
So it appears I have a stuck/faulty oil pressure relief valve in my '89 1.7 diesel vanagon. Two times in the past couple weeks, upon start up the oil filter seal has blown, spewing the contents of my engine about the tarmac. I have not checked the pressure as I have no gauge. This one is new to me, ...
