I have just finished re-cleaning the carbs as best I can without removing them from the engine, and now have a sweetnut tickyboo perfect sounding tickover. I was able to remove the top halves from both carbs without damaging the gaskets, and took out everything I could get at to carb clean and blow ...

Carbs could be full of crud. Doesn't take more than ten mins to take off the top half and expose the float bowl. Not uncommon to find water in the bottom of them as well as other rubbish - filter or not. Did exactly this earlier on today! Was a fair amount of rubbish in there, injection needles wer...

The engine has done 59,000 miles - could carb butterfly wear be a possibility at such a low mileage? I'll double check for air leaks but I don't think it's likely. All the solenoids click resoundingly with the ignition, though the 'idle enrichment' module does not function. The chokes work ok, and a...

Engine only runs at full throttle
Hot off the back of my fuel tank problem my CU engine is now stalling under idle or part load. After replacing the tank etc. the fuel filter would become clogged with dirt and possibly water, but despite clearing this out it is still not running right. I can just about get it started and, by giving ...

Refitted tank today, after applying putty and treating/painting rust. I would expect this to be possible with most leaking tanks; don't just assume that a new one is needed and save yourself the money. After reassembly the fuel pumped out was inevitably full of dirt and rust particles, this very qui...

10 points to anyone that thought it was going to be the fuel tank; it has three (at least) pinholes on the inside edge of the left hand 'lump'. Very tiny holes, yet caused the rest of the sponge-like surface to soak up fuel and smell for so long. I've got some PetroPatch putty to repair it with, but...

Big Fuel Tank Leak!
So my project to get a 6-years-parked-up T25 back on the road was complete except for the test drive. Managed to go from London to Brighton and back yesterday; it'll do maybe just over 65mph now (2.0 A/C engine still not running quite right) and found everything to be in pretty good shape. I was mig...

If you do go down the electric route, I have mounted mine on the inside edge of the longitudial chassis rail just after the small inline fuel filter. I had to drill two small bolt holes in the rail to secure and earth the pump. I took the opportunity to replace all the fuel lines at the same time as...

Well today I have tried to check a few more components. The coil is a little (10%) over the Haynes spec. on both LT and HT coils, and was not a concern but easy to measure. The sparks look very strong, camera flash-like in fact. The Gunson's budget timing light I have does not attach to either HT le...

Engine Problems
Hi, I have been getting a 1980 2.0l A/C camper back on the road after being sat for 6 years or so, and despite sounding mechanically good and revving nicely in neutral, the engine is causing me trouble. I took it out for a run today for the first time, and have two issues. Firstly, and most seriousl...

Auto-Choke Basics
Following my continuing efforts to get a 1980 2.0 A/C T25 back on the road I succesfully started the engine two days ago, but have been suffering from idling issues. Initially it would only continue to run with some throttle, and would stall otherwise. Only yesterday did I then find out what Auto Ch...

I really don't want to have to make them myself. Will try GSF and co. tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. Are VW still able to supply most parts for T25s still? I got the impression that things like the mechanical fuel pumps were no longer available (see my other thread!) Any other rubber hoses I should b...
