Thanks Oldie, I had thought of a latching relay but didn't want to go to the expense of one.

Low voltage protection
I have fitted a REUK low voltage protection circuit to my leasure battery setup, this triggers a 30A relay. Obviously the relay takes some power to hold it closed which will help to deplete the leasure batteries. I know it is possible to reduce the voltage required to maintain the relay in the close...

Re: Wanted Help changing Glow plugs on my van !
£40 sounds a good price, it's a sod of a job even with the injectors out.
Are you sure they all need changing? Just one dodgy one will make it difficult to start. You may be lucky and find its just one of the easy to get at ones.

Re: Engine revs slow to drop down
I had a similar problem once and did a lot of head scratching before I found that the whole injector pump was loose and vibrating. Check that all the bolts are tight, one of mine was missing!

Re: Levelling Ramps: Yay or Nay
Waste of time for me, I have a pair but chucked them out of the van long ago, take up to much space and I have never had a problem. As said by someone else just sleep the other way.
Mine actually damaged the side planks on the van (Westy Atlantic) when they tipped in soft ground.

Very likely to be glow plugs, are you getting black smoke when cranking? If so the fuel is probably OK.

Re: Friends JX bus now impossible to start.
I had a similar problem this week, after changing the fuel filter, spent many fruitless days chasing down air in the fuel lines. When I had exhausted that avenue I pulled the Glow Plugs and the most difficult to get at one had failed! Pure co-incidence it happened at the same time as the fuel filter...

IMHO it's hard to tell if a CV joint is worn without taking it apart.

Re: 1.6 JX valve seals
Thanks Martin for the very useful reply, the engine has only done 30,000 but uses lots of oil, turbo is reconditioned and there are no leaks. Basically I have eliminated everything apart from valve stem seals and cylinder wear. I am wondering if the engine was nursed when fitted and the bores are gl...

1.6 JX valve seals
Hi JX Engine experts,
I have found a post that says that JX engine valve seals can be replaced without removing the head in about 2 hours. Compressed air and special tools are mentioned but no indication of how it's done.
Has any one done this and what is procedure?

Re: Dip Stick trouble
Bend the bottom bit up and fit it through the plastic part. The end of the dipstick should be a complete loop not open ended as shown in the photo.

Draining oil with an oil cooler fitted
I am about to change to fully synthetic oil, I have a Brickwerks front mounted oil cooler, what's the best way to get as much old oil out as possible?
Thinking of disconnecting fuel cutout and cranking engine with drain plug removed.
1.6jx turbo diesel.
Possibly a question for Simon

Re: Fitting a replacement Westy window
There is a knack to it, use some strong cord, and some lubricant, KY jelly works well and get a helper, there is a video on the campervanculture.com site of it being done.

Condensation
I have just been wild camping on the North York Moors, -4 degrees and snow! I have a Westy Atlantic and generally it's well suited to "extreme camping" conditions, however one flaw is the metal area at the top of the rear door. This gets lots of condensation which then drips on you!! Has a...
