Re: heating-de-icing

Last winter I parked mine close enough to run the electric hook up to it, and then plugged in an electric heater - the one that looks like a radiator and has heating elements in it but no fan, basically a convection heater. Obviously I couldn't drive with it plugged in but it was warm and frost free...

Re: Aircooled to watercooled

I wasn't thinking of adapting the front panel as such, in fact I don't want to cut the lower hole out. I was just going to use the top hole only, but seal it all up on the inside so all the air going through it just goes through the rad, if that makes sense. A guy round the corner from me has had th...

Re: Aircooled to watercooled

'Cos I love my green machine! And if I did buy a water cooled it'd cost a whole lot more than I've got, that's for sure.

Re: Aircooled to watercooled

Do you think it could be done without the extra radiator hole? If the air is properly chanelled in and sealed through the upper grill only?

Re: Auto Gearbox Part!!!

All I know is the Audi 80 auto box is the same, but obviously with a different differential housing. I used to have a mid 90's Audi 80 - it was a manual - and in the Haynes the pictures of the box looked the same. It was the updated version from the 80's model and mine was a H reg from memory - may ...

Re: Idle Stabilizer Wiring

Just checked it and no spark - I had a neighbour turn it over while I held a plug against the engine. All I have is a circuit tester; both sides of the coil set it off with 12volts if I earth one of the prongs whilst touching the coil contacts with the ignition on - also 12volts from the centre term...

Re: Idle Stabilizer Wiring

The thing is, it was running, albeit a bit rough, so I adjusted the tappets, replaced some pushrod seals, and made sure all the breather pipes were ok and not split. Then it wouldn't start or even sound like it was going to catch or firing. I did the tappets a couple of weeks ago cold, so yesterday ...

Idle Stabilizer Wiring

The wiring into the 2 plugs that connect to the idle stablizing unit on my 2ltr Aircooled was a bit dodgy - if you moved it the van cut out. I sent it to a guy over here to have a look at a few little things including the dodgy wires. He couldn't get another wiring loom piece so he cut the plugs off...

Re: Oil - again!! And Slick 50

Yes, doing it myself for sure. The thing is it's my daily so there is only so much I can do because I need to get to work. I'm gonna have another go tomorrow, but this time I'll run it for a couple of minutes to pump them up like you say, then adjust them again. I even bought an extending magnet thi...

Re: Oil - again!! And Slick 50

Got 20/50 in at the mo Kev, and it's just about due for a change; the last one was in March, although it loses that much I give it a change every month or so by topping it up! I did the tappets a couple of weeks ago - cold engine, 1 & 1/2 turns in from touching - but I noticed a couple were spon...

Re: Oil - again!! And Slick 50

Thanks Cov Kid, I might just give it a whirl when I change the oil next week. I would do it today but rather bizarely, even though I'm in the fatherland, the local car shop takes a week to get the oil filter in! It's really just for a bit of extra insurance, and I was also hoping it may loosen up so...
