Re: Hesitation under acceleration - 2.0 A/C

Thanks, the fuel filter was changed recently as I have had fuel starvation before but when I had that the engine would die and you would have to wait a few mins to get it going again. I am going to put an air line across the carbs to clean out the crud. I think i will also have a look at the dizzy t...

Hesitation under acceleration - 2.0 A/C

Any ideas? I have a really frustrating problem on my Westie (2.0 CU standard setup). Runs fine, idles fine etc apart from under acceleration the van is lumpy and feels like it is hesitating. It does get there but it just does not feel right. Starts a about 1/2 throttle or when under load. I have had...

Worth checking out how much duty you will pay, I am not sure of the exact rules but you will have to pay vat on anything over £18ish. This is be charged by the delivery company before they l et you have the goods not by the seller. Sometimes (but not often these days) you get lucky and they won't ch...

Replacement Engine

Just got my van back from Elite VW in Essex after having a replacement engine fitted (2.0 A/C). Must say I was most impressed, they have sorted my van out and fixed the dizzy and carbs among other things. They had some trouble getting parts which took some time but it was worth the wait. Price was g...

Good VW workshop in the Beds area

Does anyone know of a good VW shop who would be able to have a look at the fueling/running issues I am having with my 1982 2.0 A/C Westie. I have tried everything and can not get it running correctly so I need someone who knows what they are doing. The van runs but is very rough in the mid range and...

I had a similar oil leak that drove me nuts.

Changed the oil cooler seals, oil seal behind the fan, push rod seals, when it finally turned out to be the oil pressure switch leaking from where the plastic joins the metal parts.

Five minutes later all done.

I have the Barum Vantis on my van and am very pleased with them. I would go for them as they are backed by a good brand (Continential) and have a reasonable price.

I know on my van you can't open the filler flap at the back without the boot open? Is there any damage on yours?

I had the exact same thing on my 2.0 A/C. It got so bad the I would have to stop for 5 mins before restarting the engine. Turned out to be the fuel filter, replaced this and normal service was resumed. As they cost just a couple of pounds may be worth a look before spending on more expensive and har...

2.0 A/C Carb Bolts

The nuts that hold the carbs to the inlet manifold keep comming loose on my van. Takes about 1000 odd miles to do so. Once this happens the van starts playing up in the midrange as it sucks air. Tighten the bolts again and all is well. Ok in the scheme of things this is not a big problem and aslong ...

I had exactly the same when changing the oil on my gearbox (4 speed with 2.0 a/c). I was not expecting a flow of oil from the filler plug and it got rather messy  . Drained the rest (after using a 1 meter bar to undo the drain plug) and filled with exactly 3l when it started comming back out ...

Checked timing, it was way out it idle it was about 16 atdc, adjusted it to 7 atdc as per Haynes (not sure if this is the best setting but it sound much happier at idle now). Advance both vacum and mech are good. Run much much better but the roughness was still ...

I had this same issue when registering mine with the DVLA. I had a haynes manual to hand and located the number, I had to really scrape the underseal back to read it. The DVLA guy was really good and worked with me to read the number. It is located on the chassis member behind the front wheel on the...
