Will any 1Y fit???
Hello just a quick query, will any 1Y engine fit in a T25?? I looking at a 1Y with 1.9 d/td stamped on the head but it seems to have a lot of wiring going on and seems like it might need an ECU it also looks like it might have an immobiliser on it. I'm not massively experienced with mechanics and re...

Re: Less milage than clock says
Ive found someone on yahoo answers that says they've done a trip of under 100km (they dont specify exactly)and google directions was spot on. I'm going to have to try the trip in a different car. I dont know why this is bothering me so much, its not like me, but I really need to know now. If results...

Re: Less milage than clock says
I cant find anything that specifies whether goggle take elevation into account, but given how detailed there breakdown of a journey in miles and times it must be somewhere near accurate. I'm starting to get a bit of an unhealthy obsession with this now.

Less milage than clock says
Hello T25 lovers, I was driving along the other day looking at my speedometer and my satnav and the speedometer was around 5-10% slower than the satnav. This got me thinking about how accurate my odometer was, so when I got home I looked up one of the journeys I do regularly on google maps and it sa...

Re: 1y engine conversion - which gearbox?
Cheers for the advice mike, definitely decided to keep my 4 speed. Will update n let you know how it all goes. I'm kind of in the same boat as you, it seems cruel to pull out the old girls still beating heart but it just hasnt got the oomph that i need. I'm just too bloody indecisive

Re: 1y engine conversion - which gearbox?
Thanks for the brickyard link Mike, checked it out and confirmed my latest plan. Get my nice new engine in, keep my good old workhorse of a gear box and chug along like I always have (hopefully a little speedier up hill). From what I can make out there's very little difference at the top end of the ...

Re: 1y engine conversion - which gearbox?
Cheers for response mike, took it to a couple of VW mechanics yesterday and got same answer from both "anythings possible". But it seems like a lot of work so think i'm going to stay with my reliable old 4 speed, hasnt let me down yet better the devil you know and all that, probably just r...

1y engine conversion - which gearbox?
Hello again fellow T25 lovers, I've recently bought a 1Y engine to convert from a 1.6d 4speed. The 1Y ive bought has been fitted with a 1Z flywheel and a 02A cable change 5 speed gearbox. Its a fantastic looking engine (havnt had a chance to play with it yet) that came out of a golf or a jetta I thi...

Re: white smoke :(
The Verdict: Steel seal seems to have done the job fingers crossed. Engines running nicely no smoke at all now if anything it seems to be running a little smoother than it was before but it might just be the relief of getting it going nicely again. Although its a little expensive its cheaper than a ...

Re: white smoke :(
Yeah i'm pretty sure its the head in one way or another, got a bit of the mushroom soup affect going on in my expansion tank now. I've bought some steel seal i'm gonna try, after speaking to the chap in the shop he said he had sold loads and never had a complaint people have been telling how well it...

Re: white smoke :(
Cheers matt i might have to take you up on that if all else fails. Celebrating the fuel filter was a little premature after a spin around the block it seems to be back to how it was before. Will give the diesel conditioner a go though i think, nothing to lose. The main reason i think its going to be...

Re: white smoke :(
Partial success with the fuel filter. Chucked a new one in and managed to spill diesel all down myself in the process, got to learn not to balance things on the back of a sloping van  Have reduced the smokeyness a noticeable amount but its definitely still got something going on. Didnt think my...

Re: white smoke :(
I had a new belt and fuel filter about 6 months ago, might chuck in a new filter anyway there only cheap. Might take it for a very small spin around the block today see how the smoking is and see if i get any signs to indicate anything else
