air cooled 2.0 CU alternator

My vans is still running the original 45 amp alternator. It's feeding the starter and a 100 amp split charge connected to a 115a/h leisure battery. I'm getting about 13.4v to both batteries with nothing else switched on. I would normally have the fridge (cr50) stereo and at night the headlights that...

intermittent wiper conversion

Hi, I did the intermittent wiper relay conversion about a year ago. Every thing was going ok till this week. The intermittent seems to have stopped working. The wipers and washers work fine.
I've changed the relay and checked the fuses and wiring and seems ok.
Any thoughts

twin weber 34 linkage

My van is running what looks like a frankenstein linkage. It's a hexi crossbar job but it has loads of play in it and because of the home made throttle arms it is very difficult to sync the cards. Just wondering what linkages anybody is using and how they get on with them. Anybody heard of a centre ...

Re: leisure battery charging

thanks for all the advice. i've gone for a 12amp/hr intelligent charger from http://www.travelvolts.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which is a fit and forget. going to upgrade my split charge relay as well as it has been suggested that mine is a little small. looking at ...

Re: air cooled replacement dizzy

Running a 2.0 cu.

Coil was supplied.

Just done 850miles round France! Got about 22 mpg, wondering if the timing would improve that and help cooling?

air cooled replacement dizzy

I have recently swapped my 009 for one of simon at BBC's vacuum advance dizzy's. Just bolt in and go. My question is- is anyone else running one of these and what is the best timing for it?
Is it best to set at max advance with the vacuum disconnected (i.e. 28 deg at 3000)

Any advice appreciated.

dizzy replacement

my 1982 Aircooled CU is running an 009. ive just bought an original off ebay and its an electronic one.

so....does it need a black box and idle stabiliser to run?

just got my carbs re jetted and now i can feel the 'flat spot' in the timing.

Re: early Aircooled linkage

Sorted!! found that the early air cooled linkage should have a bush supporting it half way down the first bit of the shaft. the problem is that this is where the fuel tank is! mine had dissapeared completely and was being supported by two zip ties!! I also made the mistake of disconnecting the linka...

early Aircooled linkage

Have a bit of bother getting gears after an engine rebuild. found that i had bent the gear pin that bolts to the gear box. (thats what happens when you leave the gearbox in the van at a natty angle without disconnecting the shaft!!). straightened this out and re-fitted and still having bother with i...

I disconnected all of the plug leads from the right hand bank and it made no difference!! compression test showed all cylinders at 115 psi.

back fire through carbs

My engine starts and idles fine, a bit noisier than normal. when you put it under load it sounds like it is back firing through the carbs. any ideas?
