Re: Stop start technology
Ed, thanks I have seen the numerous posts about these issues and will have another go at tracing a leak. I have tried the spraying wd 40 etc. but to no avail. I will try again. It was just the randomness of the fault which has me confused. Would air leaks not cause a consistent failure to idle prope...

Stop start technology
Hi all ,been a while since I visited the forum. My daughter has had my van this last year and it's just back with me for a month or two. It's a 1.9 dg petrol. Had a recon engine and recon pierburg carb fitted a couple of years ago. Runs well with only one issue that I can't quite understand. Starts ...

Re: Another van won,t start thread.
Thanks again, I will try to find leaks tomorrow , the cut off valve is getting power and clicks when the ignition is switched on. The carb also worked fine on bromyards van so I don't think that's the issue. Am I right in saying carb cleaner is the best thing to use, and what do I expect it to sound...

Re: Another van won,t start thread.
Thanks, Kev. Fuel pump is electric and delivering ok ... Maybe too much! Choke opens fully but the best idle I got was at 1200 revs yasterday and was no where near stable or even repeatable.nd Mixture was set by bromyards only a couple of weeks ago and I don't want to touch the carb if at all possib...

Another van won,t start thread.
Hi all once again, I have had a year of trouble free motoring but now am suffering from the van won't start issue. To be more precise its a van won't keep going issue today. Story so far. Van was going good with only a failure to idle at junctions issue, recon engine 1.9 dg petrol engine, Bromyard c...

Re: Sorry, again BOD !
Mine was a case of crusty wires to the senders. They were routed over the hot engine / exhaust and were shorting out when the engine was hot i.e. when running.

They are called 'EARZ' I saw them on JK website but out of stock, when searching for other air duct components.

Re: Missing pipe from air filter to scoop?
For Karrman's benefit - the two hoses fit onto two outlets on a ' heat exchanger' attached to the offside rear exhaust pipe (just near the gearbox). IMO - This seems to be a carryover of practise from Bay Window days. To aid start up item 2 in the diagram above, which is a temperature sensor allows ...

http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w453/largswoody/air.jpg Maybe this will help , but I don't think it shows the bit you are talking about. I am missing the two hoses 13 and the tee'd elbow 6 and the other vertical bit you have so please PM me with details of for sale. I have a DG petrol 1989 with...

Re: Peirburg mixture adjust screw
My vote would be clockwise i.e in as this will restrict the fuel inlet. But please let an expert answer this. More to the point if you gas analyser has CO, HC, O2 , I would be very interested to here exactly where you get to, mine is currently running 0.8% CO, 800ppm (4%)HC and I have no idea on O2 ...

Re: Can't start the van now - stalling 1.9DG 1984
Not an expert at these things but gaining experience rapidly. On mine the fuel pump actuator rod had worn down and was therefore not pumping enough fuel. I then broke the fuel pump by fitting the wrong actuator. Anyway point of story --- the AA man had a hand squeezy pump which he fitted between the...

Re: sos - van wont start after being idle for a few weeks
Well its time to admit masochism hurts too much. Call me a numptie but I have now answered my own question. Someone sold me the wrong pushrod (I knew there were two versions by the way) and when it was sitting about 8mm proud I thought thats funny but didn't check its length and proceeded to push th...

Thanks, fitting electric would save me worrying about how the mechanical pump works, but I think I will continue with the masochism.

Thanks Ian,
So I take it there is very little movement (helps me to understand the mechanics of it). So when its 100mm long It sits flush with the surface and only pops up 1 or 2 mm above the surface on the cam is that right?
