Re: Gearbox / Clutch release lever

Ok, I'm officially useless, just spilt the engine and gear box to find no release bearing :o( Really weird I could have sworn there was one on there when it came back from the rebuild! Guess I'm not fitting the engine this weekend. Thanks for the heads up Aidan :o) I'm presuming I shouldn't reuse th...

Re: Gearbox / Clutch release lever

Cheers, Yeah the release bearing is fitted on lever. I guess I need to whip the gearbox back off and double check nothing is out of place?

Forgot to say that it's a 4 speed DK Aircooled box

Gearbox / Clutch release lever

Hi, First time I've fitted a flywheel, clutch and gearbox All seem pleasantly simple, now it's on though, I'm not sure it's quite right, the clutch release lever seems to have a lot of movement, about 3 inches of swing travel does that sound right? It's on an AGG golf gti mk3 engine, I'm using a bla...

Re: Air-cooled CU engine oil leak / low compression

Thanks for the reply, bigherb.
So I guess either way the engine is going to have to come out, but hopefully not immediately?

Air-cooled CU engine oil leak / low compression

Hi, I put it in for a compression test as I was having difficulty starting it, especially after a week or two standing on the drive. It was making sucking/vacuum noises and popping a bit then conking out. Once started and up to temperature it seems to run fine until a long uphill, but that's to be e...

Re: vw golf engine in to t25 wbx

Hi Gary,

Could I trouble you for the docs too please?

I'm just starting to assemble all the parts to convert my air cooled camper.

Cheers,

Ben

Re: engine misfiring at motorway speeds intermittently

Thanks for the reply. Yeah thats a fuel filter there, tgechap that fitted the carbs added that. I did think at the time it was an odd place to fit a filter. Ill remove it when im back home I think. The fuel pumpis an electric one and only a couple of months old, there's also a fuel king pressure reg...

Re: engine misfiring at motorway speeds intermittently

Well, we managed to get to our destination. The engine kept up the intermittent misfire all the way. Once all set up at the campsite I swapped out the dizzy cap and roror arm with the spares I had on board and wound electrical tape around any suspect looking vacuum inlet pipes. On the day trips roun...

Re: engine misfiring at motorway speeds intermittently

Martin that sounds a bit drastic! I'm not sure it has the metal outers like that. I've now driven about 150 miles into France and so far I've only had three repeats of the misfire. The distributor is a power spark svdc (iirc) it was rolling roaded after the carbs were fitted, then the same guy rest ...

Re: engine misfiring at motorway speeds intermittently

Thanks Martin, not quite sure what you mean though. Is the plug shroud part of the ht lead? Or part of the spark plug? I removed the little screw tops from the spark plugs as the leads wouldn't fit with them on, could that be related? Although it's run with them removed on the previous sets of spark...

Re: engine misfiring at motorway speeds intermittently

Thanks for the reply. Shouldn't be the fuel filters as they've both been replaced recently. It's also recently had a new power spark distributor and coil, new rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs and leads, a new electronic fuel pump, and relay, refurbished twin dellorto 40's and a new stainless exhaust. I t...

engine misfiring at motorway speeds intermittently

Hi, we're on the way to the ferry to France. The engine has started to misfiring. It started with just a bit of a blip, but as we travelled further it has increased in frequency. And lost power and the revs have dropped right off but I managed to rev through it. Rather worried as we're catching the ...

Re: brake failure on open road - help

Hi thanks for the reply, My mechanic seems to have sorted it for now... he recently fitted new front bearing and notice the disks had seen better days so replaced them too -the new ones were a couple of mm thicker. it seems that after all the checking cross checking, replacing the master cylinder, f...

Re: brake failure on open road - help

Hi,

thanks for the reply, my mechanic thinks it won't be the servo, as it would display the opposite symptoms - really hard to press the pedal down and non effective brakes rather than really easy to press the pedal down and no effective brakes?

Cheers,

Ben

Re: brake failure on open road - help

HI, Did you manage to narrow down the problem at all? I've got a similar issue but it's intermitant - some of the time the brakes are working fine, but then the brake pedal will go all the way to the floor with next to no resistance until I pump it, then get a 'normal' pedal feel for a while, until ...
