Thanks for everyones advice - the oil thing doesn't seem to begetting better but worse though. We went on a very short trip the other day (just around Bristol really, maybe 20 miles) and it seemed to use something between a half and a whole litre of oil. Also, when we started the van yesterday, it w...

Yeah - my question wasn't really about the gas though, I was just hijacking the thread so I wouldnt have to start a new one. What about running it off the battery: How can I tell it's working without having to wait for hours until it's getting cold? Any lights/noises/moving parts that should come on?

...just another engine of unknown origin... Yes, that's the one... We haven't really monitored properly how much it uses, but we'll keep an eye on it. I'd say it was something like 1l in 400-500 miles, but I have a feeling it may have been running constantly slightly low during that time so that mi...

The smoke is quite dark for a minute or so after starting up, not really afterwards though. What would be the reason for it burning oil? Surely it isn't meant to do that. It's only been on one longer trip since we noticed this (Bristol-Manchester and back) and at least one bottle of oil has just dis...

Oil disappearing into engine?
We've got a problem with our 1.6 TD engine - It's been replaced about 6 months ago and we haven't had any problems with it. But checked the oil recently and it was very low - put two bottles of oil in since and it's still just about up to the "min" mark, and seems to just disappear very qu...

Sliding door won't close properly!
Hi, went to get something out of the van yesterday, and when we tried to close the door, the catch wouldn't work - I.e. the door closed, but didn't stay closed. We eventually managed to get it shut, but only just (i.e. there's a bit of a gap at the back). It's probably got something to do with the c...
