Re: Help required pleeaasse
yes, the thermostat is on the other end of the head , and the coolant that has been cooled comes from the rad back That's interesting. When the head gasket failed, I noticed that pipe didn't get hot and thought it was the thermostat. Looking at the diagram it must have been a blockage in the rad. I...

Re: Help required pleeaasse
I always thought that on the late system the big pipe behind the thermostat took coolant to the rad. On this it appears the flow is coming from the rad to the thermostat?

Re: surprise surprise another head gasket seems to have blown
I wouldn't read much into the compression test unless you have earlier reference readings and something has significantly changed. It certainly doesn't tell you with any certainty which fire ring is leaking. It might be mismatched pistons (I've known them mix used sets) or heads (early heads had a ...

Re: surprise surprise another head gasket seems to have blown
In for repair, failed another sniff test. Before dropping off, I noticed that the pipe from the thermostat to rad wasn't getting hot so I changed the thermostat to a decent one from Brickwerks. The pipe still didn't get hot. Is it likely that combustion gasses getting in, lower the temperature of th...

Re: Supply and fit rebuilt 2.1 engine
Fitting a 2.1 is quite a simple affair and ssome good garages will take it on. Have an hour on the phone and ask if they would. Or if they know somebody. There are a few engine suppliers on here. Search for Marco Mansi on Facebook. Marco's been in the US for a while now. Any idea of cost for a dece...

Re: surprise surprise another head gasket seems to have blown
Sorry for confusion-I meant nuts! Tried Brickwerks for the yellow sealant but they say it only comes from the supplier with the gasket set these days. I've emailed their supplier just in case they've recently had a change of procedure. If not I'll go with the ARP. Is it better to be generous with th...

Re: Supply and fit rebuilt/known used 2.1 engine
Disappearing water from header tank, not drawing from reserve tank, and failed a 2ml sniff test although it took a while, which I'm hoping means it's a small leak. As I fix one leak another appears. Had a lot of these failures with previous Elite engines so I recognised it quickly before overheating...

Should I buy new bolts or is reusing the existing ones back in the same holes just as good?
