Hi Purplechugster

There is no pooling on top of the engine and coolant tank looks fine.

I checked oil and that is clean/not frothy which i guess is a good sign?

Water Leak!

HI just came back from shopping around town and noticed water leaking from under the engine. I have an early 1.9 dg. The leak seems to be in the centre, fairly low down - water is dripping off the oil filter - does anyone have any ideas where this might be coming from? or how terminal it could be? T...

I do what it says in my owners manual -

Press down aclerator to floor and let go,

depress clutch and start up

This sets the choke and lightens the load on the starter and works verytime for me on my DG - hot or cold.

UPDATE

We'll I've got all the electrics working again - by recreating the bodge the previous owner left me - so i now have a bit of heavy wire running from fuse 8 to fuse 10 and everything works - although i'll be keeping the fire extinguisher handy! I did some research on the X-contact (or X-relief) relay...

My van is an 1984 with an early type fusebox with only two relays - one which does the indicators and one other part number 171 93/ 5-3 with a large 24 stamped on top. By the look of the haynes manual this is X-contact for load reduction - can anyone tell me what this does? would this be something t...

Fuse Box

I stalled at traffic lights today and when I tried to restart I had no electric - then the fuse box started to smoke and crackle. I found that someone had ran a wire linking two of the fuses together and this wire was what was now melting. After this wire had burned out and i had removed it the van ...

Sorted

I came home from work early to take advantage of the light and have sorted the fuel pump. I did get the pipes plumbed in the right direction but found that one of the hoses had split, so must have been squirting fuel over the engine rather than to the carb - so rule no. 239 is don;t play with petrol...

Fuel Pump

I replaced the fuel pump on my 1.9 DG tonight and now it won't start.

Is there more than one type of pump for the 1.9? If not I guess i've got the fuel lines the wrong way round - it was getting dark, so I hope to get a better look tomorrow.
