I followed your diagram thank you, however I could only get the 12v outlet to work by making this circuit.
I don't see why this way would work as your diagram makes more sense. any idea why?

Jubilee clip worked a treat on hose/tap.

thanks kev, I wasn't employing the proper technique with 2 depresses of accelerator.
Now it almost starts, just have to press accelerator again when its turning over.

Just thought I might be missing something as the guy we bought the van off said it was working fine.
