Re: Double Skillet

Looks like a good idea. Bacon & eggs without using any fat? Have to see it to believe it. Let us know how you get on. Roast a 4lb chicken in 50 minutes and roast potatoes from raw in 30 minutes, all without fat AND on a simmering flame.

Re: heater plugs?????????????

How do you know there isn't any live feed at the plugs? Have you tested the plug feed cable with a multimeter?

Re: gimme shelter...

It would be considered a 'Temporary Construction' and the worst that could happen is that you would be asked to take it down. And if you were made to take it down, you would probably be given 7 days to do so. Put the tarp on at the last minute.

Re: old seat belts

The belts I 'softened' were nothing like the ones in use today. The only reason I didn't replace them at the time was that I didn't want to lose the originality. They had a nice buckle-clasp that I wanted t keep and the webbing itself was fairly thick. Far easier to replace a bog-standard bad inerti...

Re: old seat belts

Might sound daft, but years ago I rubbed fabric softener into the seat belts on my first car. It seemed to work, and smelled good too. :ok

Re: How strong is filler?

I've seen filler last for years and years, and I've seen filler last only a few weeks. Like Ian says, if it's on rusty metal, it'll soon show.

It's one of those special wheels where you can turn it through 180 degrees, take out the horn push and then put it back the right way up so it still says VW. :ok

Re: Fitting a Mosquito Net to a Westfalia California

We had killer mosquitoes when I was in Australia. We used to leave the doors and nets open for about 10-15mins while we burned one of those coil mosquito repellents (a whole coil would last about 3 days). Once we'd frightened all the little barstewards out, we closed the nets.
