Re: stuck rear brake drum

Thanks all for your advice..... The drum is finally free.... A good soaking in plus gas (my favoured dismantling lubricant). Patience; the use of ever increasingly large hammers and the confidence (frustration) to use them followed by the treats of the angle grinder seem to have done the trick! :D

Re: stuck rear brake drum

No.....the drum consists of a steel (or thin cast plate ) with the rim of cast iron. Cut all around the steel plate just inside the cast rim and then you can lever the steel plate off the centre hub leaving the rim in place. You can then easily get at the adjusters and see what you're doing. If you...

Re: stuck rear brake drum

I had this problem when I left the handbreak on while driving in France this year  Cooked the cylinder & fused the drum onto to the hub somehow I had to undo the hub nut to draw the drum & hub off together, Then deal with the carnage within I have since fitted a hand break indicator l...

Re: stuck rear brake drum

I had this problem many years ago. I guessed that I'd have to replace the drums anyway, so cut the steel plate part of the drum all round with angle grinder/slitting disk. Once I'd removed that, I could get at everything inside quite easily. Drastic, but least expensive sacrifice. E D I T ..forgot ...

stuck rear brake drum

I have a totally stuck rear drum and any advice is welcome..... I took the van off the road for a few weeks repairing the sills.... That was two years ago, these things snowball. At some point I've foolishly put the handbrake on. A beginners mistake but I'd not planned on it being laid up so long. H...

Re: Factory fitted side window replacement

They go in OK, much like a windscreen. Stiff repro seals won't help. Do it on a warm day and keep the seals in a bucket of red hot water til you use them. Plenty of lubrication and a friend on the outside pushing the glass in helps. I start with the cable coming out of the middle at the bottom, and...

Factory fitted side window replacement

https://paulwaites.org.uk/camper/van_window.jpg Hi all, Its time to put my side windows back in. Factory fitted (Devon). Any advice/tips welcomed. Most Youtubes etc seem to deal with panel van window seals so if you know any links that would be good. I've helped other folk with a winscreen but this...

Re: Side window replacement

Thanks for the link.

However, I think that shows you how to use the H-channel window seal that you use with panel van windows.

I've also been told to use a piece of rope to fit factory windows in a similar manner to windscreens...

I'll do a bit more googling!

Side window replacement

Hi all, Now I know this will have been asked a thousand times so apologies but I've looked in the Wiki and googled and just get adverts for window seals. I am repairing the side windows (Side and rear) frames and there is plenty of info on this but there seems precious little on getting the glass ba...

Re: Media Blasting vs Angle Grinding

I find these pretty good:

Scotch-Brite Clean and Strip Discs, (or rather the much cheaper unbranded versions).

They wear away quickly if you are not careful but are bettter than wire brushes which just seem to "polish" the rust.

Starter Battery recommendations

I am sure there was a thread on starter batteries but searches and looking at the Wiki has drawn a blank so I'm asking here. Need to replace my starter battery and looking for simple off the shelf suggestions. I believe the listed battery is a 36ah but I would like something with a bit more umph, wi...

I cannot say personally but the likes of serran1955 are recommending powerspark in a recent thread about a 2l CU loosing power.

Lost keys

Not sure which board is best for this so I've stuck it in general. I've gorn and lost my keys. (Not used the van for a long time, but I now need to move it). I've searched the forum and there is a bit on locks..... It seems to suggest that if I can get the lock number I may be able to get a new key ...
