Gasket on its way! Got bolts already. Gsf cant get the 1.7 gasket any more! On the cooling system side i dont have a clue as i bought the van knowing headgasket had gone. Ive got a new cap and the rad is nearly new. And no noticeably leaks wen i had it running even tho the system was well over press...

Yep all bar one line up.
Thats the correct gasket the one i took off was different.
Il buy it and see what happens

Thanks for the replies. Id rele like to keep the 1.7 in there so im hoping very much that the head is the right one. I will have to check 2moro. Fingers crossed

Hmm those bentley manuals sound good. I see. I thought there must be something to sort of hold the gasket in place while the head is refited. I will have another look tomorow.

Also the headgasket was buggered between cyclinder,water and oil ports.

Right the head gasket had 100% gone on the van (1.6d or 1.7?) even tho the head looks fairly new. So before i just throw it and chuck a 1.9 in there i thought mayb someone had put it back together wrong maybe. thanks.the reliable bit sounds good.had a 1.6d caddy a few years ago so im guessing a similar lump. the vans moted til jan 2012 so as long as it runs all good i mite aswell go for it. is there much point doin a 1.9d swap or is there not much in it?? not sure i want the hassle of swapping other to tu...

found a van in my price range. its a N/A 1.6d. are they really underpowered?? what are they like to say a 1.9d non turbo?
i drive a 4speed mk1 jetta so im not to bothered about speed. just need it to sit at 50/60 fairly comfotably.
any advice before i travel 2 hours to look at it.
