Ah thanks very much it is surprisingly a DF and does have a star and so i suppose has had a vw recon. I'm assuming this could be a bad thing as the cylinders may already have been rebored thereby stopping me from being able to rebore them again if necessary?

I understand there are two 1.9 variant engines, which is mine? it is a panel van june 1984 water cooled with the water stat in the front left of the engine? what are the differences between the engines?
