Reconditioned engine needed - any recommendations?
Hi, Unless I go for Flintstone power or even a cart horse, I'm going to need a reconditioned engine for my T25 (1983 water cooled, 1.9l petrol). I've heard of Elite VW, I'm just wondering if there's anyone closer to Manchester / Cheshire that anyone would recommend? Is it better to get the supplier ...

Re: Reader Rides (trial thread)
This is Big Betty - a VW LT Westfalia Florida. I've had her a couple of years and she'll be going shortly (she's on Ebay now), but we've had some great trips in her, and know we'll really miss her when she's gone. http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a535/YoFluffy/e69f823b-0e2a-4a8b-b043-05c6f4f9c52d...

Re: What's left to replace?
Question is, are you replacing top-quality original bits with plenty of life left in 'em with cheap rubbish that'll only last a year...? Fortunately none of the bits replaced are falling off, but I've no doubt there's a list of non-replaced parts just waiting to catch me out. Anyway, I've bitten th...

Re: What's left to replace?
And there was I, expecting a short and easy answer.... Experience really should have told me better. I've already had some of the above replaced, do I get any warning if any of the others are about to go or do they like the element of surprise?

What's left to replace?
I'm now focusing on my T25 as my Florida's likely to be pastures new. I've had various work done to her over the years - new alternator, clutch, exhaust, belt etc and her bodywork is fab. The problem is there's usually still something that catches me off guard, the last time it was hoses splitting a...

Re: vinyl wrap on a van
I've a wrap on my T25 high top (for advertising) and it's wearing well. The life span was quoted as 3-5 years but I guess this depends on the film used, if you're going to the effort of getting it done it's worth using someone who uses a quality product with good endurance. It's year 3 now and still...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Flattening is sanding (it's all in the wiki) and it really is worth buying new rollers if you haven't got any -preferable to using a brush or whatever you've got lying around in my humble opinion. The finish depends on the preparation but also the materials used, why bugger it up for the sake of spe...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
You'd get a much better finish with a roller - I tried a brush around the tight areas on mine (above windows etc) and it looked quite amateur in comparison - perhaps I'm just crap with a paint brush, but the roller was a doddle in comparison. I did find blemishes could be sanded out but depending on...

Re: Losing power when I accelerate?
Thanks. Van seems to be running ok again at the moment, so it definitely comes and goes. It's in for its MOT and a full service tomorrow so I'll get these suggestions checked out.

Losing power when I accelerate?
On a long journey back from Hampshire the van was running smoothly until a couple of hours into the journey. At around 60-65 on the motorway when I put my foot on the accelerator, the van actually pulled back - but ran smooth again when I took my foot off? The acceleration seemed under powered and w...

You're really spoilt for choice in the Peaks. We've been going to Callow Top in Ashbourne since my kids were still babies (and it's still their favourite as there's lots to do on site), http://barnfarmcamping.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is another of our faves, more...

Re: Recommendations for new curtains
They really are very simple to make for anyone with a sewing machine, it may be worth having a quick look in your local paper or post office window to see if there's any seamstresses around - there's often someone locally who does repairs and alterations. It may be a cheaper option than a specialise...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
My neighbour helped a little when I was starting off painting my van and he finished a section with a brush - the finish was great but there was no way I could replicate it using the same technique - it's obviously a mix of skill and experience (I had neither!).
