Re: ongoing smoke problems JX TD

Have you had a look at this? http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/the-definitive-smokey-jx-thread_topic33228.html John Thanks John and yes I know and love that hit list, it is a good start to narrowing things down. Mine is a late TD JX and I am coming round to the inevitable conclusion the popular AAZ...

ongoing smoke problems JX TD

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help solve a problem with smoke, unburnt fuel. I have rebuilt injectors, a good secondhand pump and turbo. New stem seals but I feel sure the problem is fuel. Yet it still smokes under load, quite badly. Not bad the rest of the time, startup is not too grim though there is...

Re: is this a crack in my bore?

As said above, reall hard to tell from a picky, almost looks like a previouse ceramic seal M Without a pressure test I will never be 100% sure about this but decided to ignore any doubts and replace the block with a good secondhand sourced locally. Now pretty much sure that damage resulted from fai...

Re: is this a crack in my bore?

From the picture It is difficult to say whether this is surface cracking or a full on cracked liner/bore (what engine is it?) ....I'm not sure how common this is with T3 engines but I would have thought fairly rare. Martin Thanks Martin, interesting. It is a JX and cleaning it up does not make it g...

Re: temporary water coolant loss - pushing all out expansion

Just a thought >>> Have you replaced the Dalek Cap ?? It may be blocked in one direction only and not letting coolant return to the engine. Phredd Right, said Phredd, I will get a new one. Happened again to me on way back to ferry. No flashing lights. More bad smoke for a few miles after. Ran back ...

Re: temporary water coolant loss - pushing all out expansion

This maybe a head gasket but rule other things out first. Martin Thanks Martin and I wonder what you may say the signs of a blown head gasket may be? I know lack of power, oil in water/water in oil (but not always). I wonder if such a funny thing happening may be a clear sign of something. What cou...

Re: temporary water coolant loss - pushing all out expansion

Second, your JX Head gasket could be on the way out (sorry). New head, new gaskets, new head bolts, new thermostat, new pump, new rad fan switch. All less than 1000 miles. I do wonder about the rad pressure cap though. Could this explain it? does it fail, letting it air and then reseal itself? If I...

Re: temporary water coolant loss - pushing all out expansion

Firstly welcome, you'll probably get a ticking off for not saying hi first. Hello all, I have been trying to get my registration sorted for many months and perhaps I may be a few brain cells short as I did find it extraordinarily tricky. Anyway it now works so fine and thanks for the reminder promp...

temporary water coolant loss - pushing all out expansion

This is a curious problem. Recently fitted new water pump and thermostat from Brickworks. All running fine for many miles (run to Dawn to Dusk 24 hour enduro in the hills near Neath as crew chuck wagon so 500 miles or more without problem). Until this week however, for some reason I ended up with al...
