Re: cutting out at idle
OK, time for an update now that I have spent the afternoon playing with Bob and his recalcitrant engine. Filter in the pipe line from the tank to the carb looks clean and clear to me. So taking on board the advice from CovKid I located, extracted, and cleaned the very messy "carb filter" w...

Re: Engine bay mysteries - coolant system related.
Further investigation would show that the hose with the bolt in the end should infact be attached to the "broken" and bolted "by pass valve". Which would be used for bleeding the system whilst cold! Just goes to show that these forums do contain a huge amount of information. I'm ...

Re: Cooling system pressurised when cold!?
Thanks for the support. To be honest IM not that daunted by the prospect of bleeding the system... I was able to do my old MR2 in 5 minutes... which isn;t bad for a 30 minute job. you kinda work out all the tricks and things. What i am "concerned" about, is being a T25 virgin... finding th...

Re: Water/Coolant Temperature Gauge (barely registering!)
Given what I already know abotu the state of the wiring loom in the engine bay, looks like the second project will be to replace the wires in the engine bay.
I need to find where the circuit test has been hidden.
O happy day.

Re: Water/Coolant Temperature Gauge (barely registering!)
Ok.. tried a couple of "earth" points. The engine compartment closing bracket, the coil mounting bracket. Had the ignition just on 1 click (the other dash lights on as expected, red temp light flashes then goes off as normal) and the gauge doesn't move. Tried it with the engine running.. a...

Re: Water/Coolant Temperature Gauge (barely registering!)
so far no good! Single wire (red and yellow) rfom what appears to be an early metal type. Tried a few different "earths".. and no movement on the gauge... will continue.. but I think I am spending next sunday overhauling the cooling system!!! Assuming it is the wiring and not the sender.. ...

Re: Water/Coolant Temperature Gauge (barely registering!)
One assumes I should have the ignition on to perform these tests?
But that is exactly what I was looking for in order to get a better idea of what problem I am looking at!
Thanks

Re: Water/Coolant Temperature Gauge (barely registering!)
True. I will have to set some time aside to start poking around. Other issues/symptoms - like apparently being pressurised when cold, would suggest I need to bleed the coolant system anyway.. so replacing the thermostat is a fairly cheap easy job to do at the same time. I will keep my eyes open for ...

Re: Cooling system pressurised when cold!?
My heater appears to be permanently hot! I suppose if I have to bleed the system.. it will be the right time to replace things like the thermostat and temp senders etc etc... just hoping to avoid a lengthy job.

Re: Cooling system pressurised when cold!?
So, the coolant system SHOUDLN'T be presurised when cold... I just hope that my expansion tank (looks brand new and has a new cap on it) is just VERY full, as water was coming out when all I did was turn the top to undo it! I think mine (also a 1.9 petrol wbx) has the same issue. I have already post...

Re: Water/Coolant Temperature Gauge (barely registering!)
Hi Fritz, The heater was blowing very warm air into the cab pretty much where ever the levers on the heater were located! Moving them around had no effect on what the temp guage did (or didn't do as the case may be!). Now I have done a bit of reading on this, and there is a chance that the heater ca...
