Appears you are right, DVLA local office checked through form and didn't ask for engine no.

Desparately trying to locate engine number so i can register my Karmann Gypsy in the UK. It's been concerted to a VW 1.9 Diesel engine, the only code I can find is AUK 068 972 095 BDE but 'AUK' doesn't seem to tie in with any VW engine codes. Only just spotted this and ur probably in the deep south by now.... but we run a popular bar/restuarant (CAMRA Bristol Pub of The year 2009) just 10 mins or so of M4/M5 north of Bristol.
