Late 2.1 and 1.9 exhaust - differences?

Hi All, I have an exhaust for sale that is a late 1.9 petrol one - full system of front and rear pipes, intermediate pipe, backbox and tailpipe. I've been asked if this would fit on a 2.1 auto. Looking at parts suppliers, it seems that the 2.1 and 1.9 systems are the same apart from the front pipe w...

Re: Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?

Thanks again, Paul, great photos. They answer most of it. One thing I wondered was.. Mid way along the exhaust pipes that run from cylinders 1&3 and 2&4 are brackets. What do they bolt to?

Thanks again,
Stu

Has anyone got a photo of how the rear bracket attaches to the engine mount block? Yes, the front bracket is missing :-(

* I've no idea why I rested the tailpipe that way round!

Re: Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?

Fairly easy to swap the mount, i did have one recently where the bolt was siesed into the mount by corrossion and the head snapped off, had to cut the bar in half with a hacksaw to get it off, but thats no problem as you dont need the old one but if it happens you would need a new bolt, the contact...

Re: Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?

Hey Cruz.

I have those - bought a while back in preparation having read your posts :ok

That is another question though. How big a job is swapping the engine mount bar?

Re: Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?

Thanks for that. You're right - tapped holes one end and wider holes (non threaded) the other. That is good - means the end with the intermediate pipe end is clean. Looks like drill out tomorrow! I think it might be a Timax silencer. Not sure of the condition of the existing silencer - if it's solid...

Re: Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?

Thanks Martin. Both sides of the silencer are rigid. This is what it looks like: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400623362404?redirect=mobile" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; From what you've said I think that it's the tailpipe end at issue where the bolts were stuck in the captive...

Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?

Hi All, I'm swapping my early system for a late one - managed to get a light-use late system and could not find anywhere that had early systems in stock. I have a late engine mount bar and back-box saddles to go on too. Despite being sold to me as NOS, the back-box I have has been cut off at one end...

Re: Chrome 'moon' hubcaps - what colour wheels behind?

I would remove them. You'll need to give them a good clean which will be easier off the van. If left on the van you'll have to mask the holes to stop spray going through onto your brakes etc. which will be a pain with the wheel on. It'll also get messy around the bolts. If you can't get it on stands...

Re: Automatics or Manual ?

For sitting in end-to-end tailbacks and general town driving, I've loved our auto cars. Actually, for anyone that treats driving like they do, say, hoovering or cutting the grass I would recommend auto every time. But... As someone that enjoys driving and the mechanics of it, it has to be a manual b...

Re: Opinions please - wide grill or standard..

Sorry - the mate that gave it to me now has a Bluestar so will be having it back to put on there! :-)

I agree that the wide grill suits the square lamps so am rdverting to standard I think.

Re: Opinions please - wide grill or standard..

Fortunately, mine was free as was given it by a friend, but I am definitely leaning in favour of the original. Thanks for the input :ok
