Re: Worrying Runaway Engine
Oh and another top tip coming in.......make 100% sure that when you fit said crankcase breather pipe that it does not come into contact with the pipes that exit the waterpump, or even get too close. I just noticed that vibration has started to cause them to rub together, ultimately, a new pipe would...

Re: Runaway Engine
Blocking that breather on my 1y caused  it to eat it's piston rings. There should be a plastic breather hose running up to the rocker cover, otherwise it will have monster oil pressure and will spew like a demented dragon.....anyway, that engine i had is now scrap, i had to fit another...! Th...

T25 Diesel Dipstick Fitting
Hi, folks, posted this question over Brickyard too. Just gone from 1.7 to 1.9 diesel, i've done this swap twice before, but im buggered if i remember how to sort this... I can't remember if the dipstick o-ring and washer slot into the block, or is it just the o-ring that goes in and is held in place...

Re: 1y engine transplant - surplus wires
Hi, im just about to do the same, the only wire that really matters is the fuel solenoid which will connect in the same place as the old wire. You will have another 3 wires or so, 1 will go to the inlet flange on the head nearest the oil filter, one will go on the oil filter housing and one will go ...

Engine Identification Help Please!
Been looking for a 1Y for a week or so, as my KY has gone bad. I've done the swap before, and, i've managed to find 2 Seat Inca engines, both are identical apart from 1 has a power steering pump. I've done my homework, but, i'm slightly troubled. From what i can gather, Inca's used only 2 engines, t...

Re: Temp gauge not working 1y engine, strange wiring.
i had same problem, if you do not use the metal flange from a cs engine (still available to buy from vw heritage), it will not earth and therefore not work!
this was the bit that caused me the most frustration.
but, i now have a KY engined van that has a plastic flange!

Re: 1y 1.9D engine sump
you must use the sump from the engine that was originally in your van, a 1y sump is useless and will kill your engine in 10 seconds flat........and use a new sump gasket, preferably a rubber type one, the cheapest place i found is http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this....

Re: 1.9D 1Y Exhaust
if you are replacing a 1.6d n/a (code cs) with a 1.9d (code 1y) you need to use the CS inlet manifold, and CS exhaust manifold, and all the CS exhaust system, as well as the airbox componants (if you can get it to fit that is, i failed and can't use the snorkel)....obviously, you must replace the in...
