Re: broken dip stick tubes
Its a 1.9 petrol. I have now retreived the bit out of the engine and then welded it back together. Imagine my joy when I found that I cant put it back into the engine as the water pipes to the water pump are in the way and obviously have to come off to allow me to put it back in ...Arrrgh !!!!! f, f...

broken dip stick tubes
Not even sure what it should be called, checked wiki and can't find reference to replacement as the tube that holds the dipstick has sheared off, quite cleanly right where it joins the engine !!!!, leaving a nice hole for oil to spurt out of. I presume it's just held in by the O ring I can see, but ...

spring stiffeners
Got hold of some nearly new lower springs (50mm) and jolly good they are too.
The front springs have removable rubber spring stiffeners fitted that sit about half way on the spring and I presume restrict the compression of the spring ?.
Whats the best option, take em out, leave em in ?

Re: real starting problem
It started !!! And the winner is....whoever suggested earthing problems. Seems that new starter motor covered in powdercoat connected to nearly new gearbox wasn't giving a good enough earth. The earth from gearbox to chassis was fine which was why it was misleading. Lead from starter bolt to battery...

Re: starter pinion bush
just one thing...where does the bush actually go...is it in the starter itself ?. I have a brand new starter motor you and someone said, if you change the motor you must change the bush...just not sure where it lives and Haynes make no reference to it at all.

I now have a pinion bush ( thanks Brickwerks ) to fit and staring at the little bit of copper tubing I now have am puzzled as to how it could be the cause. Hopefully some knowledgable soul out there can expl...

Re: real starting problem
Once again, many thanks. Having retested everything again...good earths, 12.7v on the main cable to the starter and 12.6 to the starter solenoid when the key is turned, and still nowt happens, not even a click on the starter solenoid. So, guessing the voltage issues were the original problem,( now r...

Re: real starting problem
Hi, cheers, Ill give it a go. I didn't change the pinion thingy. Just for clarity, how many wired should I have going to the starter ?. I seem to have large battery wire to the starter body itself, bolted on. And, a smaller wire that fits onto one of two spade terminals on the starter solenoid. This...

just got an 'assistant' to turn the key whilst I checked the voltagesa dn the business end.I have 12.7v going into the relay but only 11.5v going out of the relay to the starter solenoid.!!!.
The 12v supply is straight off the battery too. whats happening there then ?.

Re: real starting problem
yes, when I tuen the key to start it, nothing happens. I have attached a test light to the output end of the relay and when i turn the key the test light lights up showing that the signal wire to the starter solenoid is opening the relay and allowing the power through. Im guessing all the ignition k...
