Re: It came off in his hand...Sliding door handle problem

Great thanks. I saw that one but wasnt sure if it was the right one for our van as it was made in Feb 1984 and we have the longer handle version and I couldnt tell from the photo and description. Very helpful thank you.

Re: It came off in his hand...Sliding door handle problem

Thanks. I agree, need a new one not a SH one. Might just have to have 2 keys then, not a problem tho. Are you happy to share how much you paid for the handle - was it from VW themselves? Regards, Janine

Re: It came off in his hand...Sliding door handle problem

Thanks Jonathan. We thought it was just metal fatigue but nice to have you confirm that. Cant wait to get the new handle fitted so we can open the door easily in future. Janine

It came off in his hand...Sliding door handle problem

P1030625 (2).JPG Hi, we have a Feb 1984 van RHD. The sliding door handle has always been a bit stiff to open from the outside but it got worse and now it has sheared off when my husband was trying to open it. Obviously we need to get a replacement handle, but have a few questions we hope someone ca...

Re: Got a stiffie and can't make it slack......

Sorry to say we had the same trouble and in the end the handle sheared off. Luckily my husband did it and not me lol. Hope you can get it working, new ones arent cheap. If you find a solution please post as we dont want it to happen again when we get a new handle. Good luck. Janine

Re: I give up - roof light still leaks

Thanks all for your advice, will try and post up some pics when I can (you may have seen I have a far bigger problem now  ). There are some other hairline cracks in the roof which look superficial, but you never know. The water only comes in when it rains when the pop top is up though and seems...

I give up - roof light still leaks

After my 3 attempts at removing, cleaning, drying, and resealing with gallons of sikaflex, and replacing the elevating gas struts (in case they were in some way flexing the roof) the rooflight on my van still lets in drips of rain when the devon roof is elevated. :( :( I am more than happy to pay fo...

Re: Fitting a table to the interior

I didn't fancy cutting into the floor of van either. Looking at the table leg and the flush floor fitting I worked out the leg doesn't go all the way in anyway, so the fitting is too deep. I cut a bit off the bottom of the flush floor fitting with metal bladed hacksaw quite easily and drilled hole t...

Re: Pop top roof light

Thanks, the skylight itself is ok, a fairly new replacement fiamma one. But the last owners bodged up the fitting ( I think it is slightly larger than the original Devon roof one) and despite removing it, cleaning the sealant off and refixing with loads of sikaflex it just doesn't last more than a f...

Re: Pop top roof light

The skylight guy? Is there someone who can fix these things properly? We've done ours twice now and both times we thought we had it sussed..... :?

Re: Reverse lights random switching on when driving

I was surprised it isn't in MOT too, but not complaining. Trouble is when reversing out of parking spaces its is a little bit hazardous as people seem to not notice a large red van coming at them for some reason and get annoyed because the reverse lights aren't working. Also visibility in our van no...

Re: Reverse lights random switching on when driving

I was wondering that. I was under the impression that you don't need reverse lights for the MOT though, so I assumed that whether they are on a manual switch on the dash or switched by the gearbox makes no difference if you don't need the lights working anyway?

Re: Reverse lights random switching on when driving

Hi, Have fitted new switch and new washer. Now lights only switch on when I put the van into reverse, but then they just stay on. :-( Am thinking of bypassing the gearbox and just connecting the lights up to a switch on the dash and then I can manually turn them on and off when reversing. Any tips f...

Did you find the cure in the end? Have disconnected the switch for now so lights aren't on at all but would like to get it working properly (I am stubborn like that).

Reverse lights random switching on when driving

Hi, hope you can help? Had the usual problem with reverse lights not working at all. New switch fitted and now they come on intermittently when driving along forward (according to the people who were flashing at us from behind us on the way to Dorset at the weekend) as well as when in reverse. Could...
