Re: Head Gasget???? I hope not.
Sorry to bring an old post up, but after not seeming to find a sensible answer to the poor running issues my van has been experiencing. I have a mark 1 caddy as well and had some work done at a retro customs and brought up the issues I had with the Wedge and was told it does sound like a heat gasket...

Re: spigot bearing again
Sorry No, I own a 1.9 water cooled, no way that bearing was coming our without the flywheel being removed. Maybe my flywheel was after market or something but like icosahedron says, the diameters were totally different. managed to crack the flywheel bolts by using the tyre iron on the end of ratchet...

anyone know where i can get breather pipes?
Noticed that the breather pipes to the carb are spilt and could be the cause of occasional loss of power, seem to remember something about negative pressure~???
Any way anyone know if there is a specialist part/supplier?

Re: gearbox bearing
Mine wouldn't come out without removing the flywheel, Maybe I have an after market flywheel but measuring the new one against the hole was plain to see it would not go through.
The end of the crankshaft has a bore that fits the bearing so you cant push it in too far.

smoke in cab then no windscreen wipers
Was driving round the M25 and had the last thing any VW owner wants to see, smoke in the cab, After I was unable to find a cause of the smoke on the hard shoulder I continued until it started to rain. It seems some sort of wire has burt out somewhere as now my windscreen wipers dont work, I have che...

Re: what type of bolt head is this????
Anyone got any idea when I can buy some from?
Failing that i shall replace them with standard HEX, but does any one know any good bolt stockists? so far I can but them in a 1000 but that seemed 1 or 2 too many. would stainless steel bolts hurt?
