Re: tips on re-fitting a fuel tank!
darn wrote a whole spiel and the page reset use silicon lube to help the connectors slip into the grommets better connect as many of the pipes that go into the top as possible - first, ensure they don't get caught between the tank and the bodywork/frame when you offer up the tank. think the top 'bal...

Re: Drilled through petrol tank ooopps
The inside of a petrol tank is likely to be above the upper explosive limit, so even with an ignition source (hot burr, spark) there is not enough oxygen in there to cause an explosion, although vapours could ignite at the leak point and there would be a flame there. not something I'd want to test o...

Re: New drop link bushes
I just did this job the other day and what a pig! I had the ARB off the van and found that I could get the bush on the ARB no problem but then couldn't get the link over the bush afterwards. Then removed bush from ARB, fitted to link, couldn't get bush'd link onto ARB try as I might. Eventually (man...

Re: JX td or aaz td exhaust manifold.
get a mini pipe bender tool and it'll be persuaded, is long enough. make sure you keep the p-clip(s) to keep it supported so it doesn't vibrate and crack over time

Re: JX td or aaz td exhaust manifold.
I've used the AAZ setup on mine, re-clocked the turbo so oil inlet is at 12'o'clock and drain at 6'o'clock. put a block bung in from brickwerks and got a hydraulic pipe made up to drain the turbo back to the JX sump. clearance is tight on the engine mount but no issues so far (>10k miles) oh now i r...

Re: will a audi 80 1.9 tdi engine fit a t 25 1.9 petrol
et viola http://youtu.be/9_xYR97Gl7o this was into a petrol van, many custom bits including engine mounts, the early tdi's don't have built-in immobilisers :ok fortunately gearbox was an '8D' code, 4.86 final drive which ain't all that bad - 3H territory I think, so some slightly above stock wheels ...

Re: urgent - sump nut size for 1y engine
I'd also go with some ptfe tape or some kind of chemical metal/sealant - from the point of view that how did the plug just fall out in the first place? threads could be gone, worth keeping in mind if you're back and forth the vehicle and against time, them wardens are well sneaky buggers!
good luck

Re: engine mounts on my aaz
aye because these engines in the golf/jetta/etc. (mounted at 15degrees) didn't use all the holes, when you come to need them when installing in a van at 50degrees, usually the threads are all rusted up and require tapping prior to use. the installer of the engine into your van may or may not have ta...

Re: Fuel Gauge
I agree with what has been said, this is typical with these vehicles but a further theory to add... If by erratic you mean empty to half full and back again in a few seconds, then you may find that the sender is on it's way out. What can happen if you normally run the tank empty-ish or within a typi...

Brake fluid leak under dash (switch)
Usual suspect, plenty of topics on this - checked brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder all ok, leak turned out to be the actual brake switch itself! coming out of one (or all) of the contacts I know it looks a bit haphazard with the connectors but I didn't know there were 3-pin and ...

Re: how bad is the 1.6d??
They are supremely reliable
but slow and revving the nuts off to go anywhere doesn't do fuel economy too good
worth a look, then can always investigate upgrade options in the future
55-60 may require earplugs and a tailwind

I don't think an AGD code engine has the same block - so the bellhousing won't line up, best check that first

Re: I've done something really stupid (fuel gauge related)
and make sure you empty the fuel tank as much as possible first, store the can of fuel you just drained away from the van disconnect the battery before doing any electrics, and just to be sure I put a rag or other insulator type thing over the contact ends and secure them away somewhere as they some...
