Re: West Highlands and Ardnamurchan Peninsula

Great photos, Not only do I recognise some of the sites but it looked like you were right in the same spot. The quiet bit of Red Squirrel by the looks, theres one wee spot you can squeeze a camper in at the end of that track next to the river, brilliant! That looks like Invercaimbe by Arisaig, you w...

St Kilda is incredibly remote and has an amazing amount of history. Get hold of some of the books about when island community and you will get a a real sense of the place. There is a similar small island just off the north mainland near tongue called Seal Island. The village there was abandoned in t...

No worries Ian. I managed to get Mo at Roseburn to do the mot so I could get the van taxed. Agree though sounds like you need another Russell to ease the stress,

Re: Drive away awning or tent?

we have a khayam which is great but can be a bit of stress if its really windy. wifey prefers to have it pitched back from the van as she feels the sliding door is the best thing about the van and what separates us from the lesser mortals in coach built white motorhomes with tiny doors. When its too...

Re: Highlands & islands

My worst midge experience was climbing Ben Klibreck in Sutherland (far north west) stopped the car in a lay-by at 8 am and started to get into hiking gear. I was wearing black long sleeved top and when i looked down it had turned grey! every square inch was covered in midges going mental! I was even...

Re: Highlands & islands

We've just come back from doing a tour of the islands. We travelled up via Fort William to Arisaig for a night then took the ferry from Mallaig to Skye (with fuel prices what they are at the moment it works out cheaper going this way than via the bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh) Drove up through Skye spe...

Re: Normandy and D Day beaches...

My father who died a few years ago was a veteran of the landings. We took him over every year from the 50th to the 61st anniversaries. He landed on Sword Beach at a place called Hermanville Le Breche. I love Normandy and its like a second home to me, I feel at home as soon as i get there and would l...

Spare wheel Retaining Bolt question

Hi I needed to put the spare on recently after a puncture. I discovered the bolt that secures the spare under the front was missing (not sure if its always been missing or a garage didn't put it back) All that holds the spare wheel bay up is the plastic clip which doesn't seem strong enough. Any cle...
